have u had the chance to check if they are vegan?

I have. They gave me a bizarre response in regards to their Rowley line, but I was more interested in the Authentics and slip ons, which are apparently vegan friendly.

Hello Andrew,

The following shoes are made of canvas and synthetic (non-leather materials): Our Classic Slip-ons, Authentics, and Eras, as well as the Old Skool Vegan. In addition, most of our Geoff Rowley shoes are guaranteed to be 100% vegan. Geoff Rowley has recently begun to segue into designing non-Vegan shoes. Check out our category Vegan Shoes on the shop page.

Geoff himself is a strict vegan, so any shoe that bears his name is guaranteed to be vegan friendly. PETA has recently honored his styles as being one of the best vegan shoes.

Geoff Rowley has recently begun to segue into designing non-Vegan shoes. The Shambles does have suede pieces in its design.

geoff rowley talks some crap about hunting, for a vegan. i was looking for new trainers recently and went for ed templetons instead. the emerica website has all its vegan-friendly products listed: http://emericaskate.com/news/2008/01/24/vegans-rejoice/

quote from geoff rowley's myspace page:
**SOME Q AND A**

Q: When did your fascination with the wild beasts begin?
A: At birth, my son!
Q: When did you start stalking them?
A: At the grand old age of about sixteen.
Q: Do you ever actually hunt them, with the intentions of killing them?
A: It's the stalk I'm most stoked on, and to be in the realm of such pure beastage. Shooting is not the intent of a hunt for me, or most people I hunt with. It's just a part of the act. I have a friend who has been hunting mountain lions for forty years (and is considered the best in his game) and has only killed two. This is a man who could have killed thousands of the beasts, and to only take the pinnacle of the species during his time is awesome. This explains a little more about hunting than most people would perceive, or like to believe, and this is true of a lot of people I know. Hunters are the biggest single group of conservationists alive in the United States today. Without them we wouldn't have half the open spaces we have left, America wouldn't be America without them, we owe them more than they are given credit.
Q: How long do you generally stay out on a “hunt” (stalking may be a better word)?.
A: A week to nine days, and hunting is what it is.
Q: You are highly interested in mountain lions, what draws your attention to them in particular?
A: The only 100% true carnivore, no vegetation consumed, nothing! Think about it…

I didn't understand their spiel on Geoff Rowley either. But like you guys I've heard he's not really "vegan" anyway. At the end of the day I just want some vegan shoes.

Vegan trainers

Postby bella_green » Sat Jun 20, 2009 6:56 pm

Hello

I was doing my own search with very poor results. Esspecially when it come to glue ingradients. Most companies didn't answer this question.
But I found light at the end of the tunnel. I found somebody on eBay who is selling shoes with non animal glue.
I bought Komodo sandals there. Sole is made from recycle tires (amazingly) sole looks like tire. Have a look if you can find something there for yourself:

From my experience I would personally recommend the Cheatah-64.95 from http://www.vegetarian-shoes.co.uk

They do many differant trainers if that one doesn't tick all yer boxes. As well as a great range of casual shoes, belts, etc.etc .

Do you know who makes those cheetahs? Or anywhere else you can get 'em? They're sweet but that site doesn't have my size. And I can't find them anywhere else

Is rather cool though, why can't they be photographs instead? Still enjoy nature and wildlife, sneak up on wild animals and catch them - on film!

Try to get the best photo of a moose, deer or bear.

Same stalking and experience without the blood and free food.

Just got this reply from New Balance re. vegan trainers :(

Hello Mr. green,
New Balance has manufacturing plants in several countries China and Great Britain but the majority of our factories are located here in the United States. In all fairness, we do not have any shoes we can truly call Vegan since we do not have the exact origin of all the materials used to make the shoes. The closest we have is our 070 Eco Friendly shoe made with a reduced waste design and recycled materials, but not Vegan friendly. I am sorry, we don’t have one to offer at this time, but New Balance is always doing research and developing new ideas and the idea of having a Vegan shoe has come up quite a lot, I have not heard of anything in development, but I would not be surprised to hear about something along those lines in the coming seasons. Please feel free to call us if you have any questions.

I have a really high arch. I have experimented and bought many many pairs of shoes from age 15 on..
In the old days ( read:pre Vegan) Nike's fit me best and helped fuel my work outs .
I am still "struggling " to find vegan trainers that are comfortable for my arch/foot.Nothing worse than ill fitting shoes .
My last foray into trainer shopping resulted in me pulling out all my old pairs ....again
Any tips????

When I asked New Balance regards vegan trainers a few months back I got this answer:

"All of the shoes on our website that contain synthetic/mesh or synthetic materials will be what's considered a Vegan shoe. However, please note that we do use different types of glues depending on what is available. Also be aware that some of our glues will contain animal products as many glues do. Even though these shoes contain all synthetic leather does not mean they will be completely Vegan. We do not mix real and synthetic leathers on any shoe. It is either leather or synthetic period."

So yeah I guess they don't do any that they can say are truly vegan becuase of the glue.

I was told by New Balance that their synthetic shoes made in the UK (which is a decent proportion of the running shoes you'll find here in the UK, even in places like JJB) are made with a non-animal glue, so definitely vegan. They did say though that they can't guarantee any shoes made outside the UK as the factories may use different glues.

To be honest I don't get too bothered about the glue issue. I know that some brands will swear blind that their 'vegan' shoes are made with non-animal glues but how can they really be sure what some subcontractor is using in a factory on the other side of the world?
Meat is still murder, dairy is still rape.
