Non-soy vegan yogurt?

Postby raquel » Mon Feb 23, 2009 11:25 pm

Has anyone found a tasty non-soy vegan yogurt -- or something that can substitute for yogurt? (I say non-soy because I try to have only 1 serving of soy per day, and I don't really like the soy yogurts). I like to cook from scratch, so I welcome anything that I can make myself. I really miss my yogurt... especially mixed with fruit or cocoa powder and some stevia... heavenly. Help me get over my yogurt addiction..?

if you use vegan yoghurt culture you can make non-dairy yoghurt from eg. rice milk or almond milk allegedly but I haven't tried it.

Have a look at Bryanna Clark Grogan's website for masses of information on vegan yoghurt making in great depth see

http://www.bryannaclarkgrogan.com/page/page/1999382.htm

Am sure she will have some info on there somewhere!

oooo I might try that Emm, the soy yogurt I've had hasn't been that delectable. I'll tell you if it's worth it.

There's a non-dairy yogurt made from coconut milk:

I haven't found it in stores yet and thus haven't tried it, but I'm dying to! I'll have to look a little harder; I've heard it's really good though! :)

The Purely Decadent yogurt is very good, but very expensive compared to the soy yogurts (almost 3x as much around here). Worth trying if you can stomach the cost.

Here's a recipe for the coconut non-dairy yoghurt
It sounds like BLISS.

I reckon you can leave the non-dairy milk powder out,
I have left soya milk powder out of soya yoghurt recipes before and it's fine.
