Why is nutritional yeast vegan?

Do Mycologists have conferences / get-togethers? What do you guys talk about when you are there?
If a whole gang of you get trapped in the lift do you say "there ain't much room in here"

Nutritional Yeast from Red Star is processed in a facility that also processes eggs, and milk.. it smells like egg too, and looks yellow like yolk..

Yes, you are right yeast is a little scary. It's properly called ascomycetous fungi-of the genus Saccharomyces. It's a little plant. It's a living organism, dried up or not . Just add food and water. It will grow. It will expand. It will multiply like some creature out of a horror movie. Imagine being blobbed by a mass of active yeast.

Since this thread was last active, I've inherited a bottle full of sludgey yeast from a colleague who has gone to a better place (medical research). It's worth a whiff as it smells just like melted chocolate. Absolutely gorgeous. When we get depressed in the lab we all have a good sniff at it to cheer us up.
