No posts for a while, and that's because training has been down to zero. I'm still getting bugs and they're driving me nuts, I'm tired and achy. I had this one for three weeks, then it seemed to be lifting.

Seemed to be, but wasn't...it got really bad. I've just had a couple of days of the worst asthma for ages. I've had no serious asthma since I started Buteyko (march 2007) and thought that was it, but this was a really bad chest infection. I struggled to go anywhere, could barely get from bed to toilet.

It's lifting now and I'm working again, but still tired. I'm hoping to get back to training after the weekend.

don't rush it, sounds like you've been really poorly!
Do you think the cold weather / onset of winter has to do with it?

Not sure. We've had plastering work and painting in the house so fumes have been all over the house. My younger son is asthmatic and the wet plaster conditions set his off big time. Not sure if it's that. I was not doing my Buteyko exercises when the bug dragged on, the time when they're needed but I was in a 'can't be bothered' mood so that didn't help.

It's the damn fatigue bug that keeps coming back...my diet's fine, I dunno what's going on with me :(

could be after effects of running the marathon, have heard it can leave even people without asthma more likely to get colds / bugs afterwards?
see http://www.marathonandbeyond.com/choices/latta.html

Yes agree damp plaster fumes sound like a very likely lung irritant!

Hope you feel better soon. emm7 might be right. After my first marathon I had several months of low energy and catching everything. Luckily never had the problem after any other marathon. But then again at least around here this seems to be a bad cold/flu season already.

Still really tired. I decided to do some stretching and that led to a light ten minutes of leg and arm work, which felt really good. I'm brassed off at how long this is taking to shift, but now feel I am winning.

GMS - that makes sense...maybe I should have had a 2 week rest after the marathon, but didn't. These bugs have been coming thick and fast, I'll make sure I eat more fruit after training and see what I can do.

Sunday

Did my first Cross Country, it was a hilly loop course, very wet underfoot. I have no spikes, and as I'm no Cross Country runner and haven't been training much recently had low targets.

I found I was slipping around loads and found it hard to keep going. There were some small patches of concrete and I seemed to fly across them, so the terrain must have slowed me loads. Finished near the end of the field, got lapped, but judging by the position of club mates did OK relatively.

My son was in the U15s but is less than 13 1/2. He struggled and didn't qualify for the county, but did run well and put in a good race as well as an excellent finish that saw him move a place up.

Well done to you and your son. Spikes with some 15mm's in will make a big amount of difference on a muddy course - could literally take minutes off your time. May be worth getting a pair if you are doing 4 or 5 XC races a year. You can potentially use them on the track in the summer as well if you put some 6mm's in.
