I feel like I'm the only Vgean dancer out there. My coach thinks I'm a tad mad for being vegan and dancing.

Anyone else out there have problems with it?

what dance type do you do?

hey I only started dancing better after I went vegan :D

I too love to dance, I go to Pineapple Dance Studios in London, I have been going for around 6 years and I LOVE it!

I do Street, Jazz and any master classes they may have from the Westend shows.

I started out doing Ballet and Gymnastics when I was just 3 years old and I haven't looked back.

I HAVE to dance otherwise I'd go crazy :)
The more I learn of people the more I love my Benji :-)

me too! i'm at a dance school in sweden. i like contemporary/new dance/modern and also contact improvisation. and also ballet. and flamenco. at the school where i am now, no one is complaining, except for other students who asks things like "but that must be really really really hard, almost impossible, how do you manage what do you eat where do you get your protein???????".
at my other school there was a teacher teaching us we had to eat fish and meat and that every vegetarian female didn't get enough iron, and because of that wasn't able to dance good enough. i don't know what she thought about vegans, but i can guess.

for me it seems like contemporary dancers eat more intresting food than those intrested in jazz and ballet :D :o
or maybe it's just sweden (and finland?)

Hey,

I love dancing. I just started ballroom dancing again 3 weeks ago after a 4 year break (moved overseas and here in NZ ballroom is not as popular and common as it is in Germany). Can't believe I waited that long.
It's a passion and when I dance, I forget the world around me.
I'm glad there are more dancers here :-). Let's show the world how sexy vegans can be :-)

I do salsa at the moment, have done egyptian(belly) in the past. Also tap and ballet (badly) when a child. Plus lots of club/raving type dancing when a younger person!
No problems with veganism and salsa - it doesn't usually come up. Although sometimes there are chocolates or sweets on tables when I do to socials - I just don't eat them.

I took classes for ballroom dancing several years ago... I should probably go back, it was kind of fun.

Add: I'm doing six classes of martial arts a week and I'm getting thrown about, kicking a whole lot and all in all, I usually get a pretty intensive work-out. I hang up my gi when I get home after every class as it is usually soaked through with sweat (probably more than anyone wanted to know). Sensei basically believes that if there isn't pain (in holding positions for long periods of time)/sweat, you're not learning.

I basically make sure to get some noodles in me when I get home (we do a lot of Italian/ Japanese/ Chinese noodle dishes at home) to keep ye olde' carbs up and have some tofu here and there for protein's sake (although there are several sources of protein that most folks don't consider in the plant world). I also have a little enriched soy milk to keep up on my B12 intake. I haven't been sick in a long time and my energy levels just keep getting better.

Dancing shouldn't be a problem for a vegan!

I teach bboying aka breakdance a couple of hours a week.

I've also done some hiphop and a couple of hours of capoeira, I've been in national championships in hiphop (in small group category, we didn't win). I also practice locking and popping but I'm not really good at them yet.

I'd really like to see you to do ballet since you're really tall and heavy built with loads of muscles. :shock: 8)

Coolcool! I was wondering about other vegan dancers too.

I'm a semi-professional dancer in San Francisco. I perform "acrobatic contemporary dance theatre"; I study contemporary, release, ballet, contact improv, axis syllabus and others.

I think anybody that doesn't dance semi-regularly is seriously deprived and depraved. Surely there isn't anything more liberating than really givin it socks on the dancefloor?
