day1

Postby JohnV » Sun Apr 06, 2008 7:20 pm

Just ran for the 1st time in many years. Maybe I went a mile and a half, jogging a minute or two, then walking, concentrating on good, through the nose breathing. I was out for 20-25 minutes. I'm sore, but happy. I did a couple of stretches before I started. I've had a couple of small meals today, first oatmeal with salt and cinnamon, then fried tofu, w/Braggs, yeast, red chili and white basmanti rice. I resolve here to have two more modest meals and eat no solids after 8 pm. I am reducing my tea consumption starting today. (caffeine)

Brilliant !

Keep at it, and take one day at a time.

My first bike ride after ten years of retirement lasted 45 minutes. When I got home, I had to lie on the floor for twenty minutes, before I could stand up enough to get into the shower !

One day at a time, and suddenly you'll be there !
I eat to nourish my compassion, not my greed

I'm the man they couldn't kill ! I cannot be destroyed with conventional weapons !

And probably the former fastest British Vegan 10, 25 and 50 mile TT rider. Probably.

the day after the first

Postby JohnV » Tue Apr 08, 2008 12:46 am

Yeow, my legs are sore. No running today, but I can't wait for tomorrow.

Yesterday I finished my food consumption with a fruit/cocoa smoothy, ww biscuits w/pb+ banana, shredded wheat w/ soymilk, a vegan chai, a beer.

Today I had oatmeal w/cinnamon + banana, a falafel sandwich, gnocci + broccoli w/margarine, and vegan chai (w/ fresh ginger, black tea, unsweetened soy milk)

If I don't gorge with munchies tonight, it was a great day.

Tonight I'll start a nightly dose of psylium husks, not that I lack fiber, but for the cleansing effect for the gut.

Every morning I chew a Natures Plus multi-vitamin/mineral

day 4

Postby JohnV » Wed Apr 09, 2008 6:45 pm

Sticking to the palate control. Grits + margarine, chai, falafel sandwich, PB/ww + banana, so far. Need to ad more veggies, cooked and raw.

Was still a bit sore, but I ran again! More running and less walking in between, too.

Unloaded and put away 1 ton of cased cans from van, about 80 cases, and that much again is still left to unload.

Soon I'll be melting away! First goal 7/28/08 goal: 187# (85 kg) Currently +/- 100kg!

Good to see another run! Sounds like you got some exercise unloading your van.

Amazed that I'm not so sore after yesterday's run/walk of +/- 3k. Today I won't run, but must unload another +/- ton of cased food and reorganize our warehouse today.

I finished yesterday's eating with pb/ww+banana, steamed green beans, spicy bryani, tortilla chips. Today I started with chai, almond butter/ww + banana.

One good habit supports another and wholistically, things are looking up.

I find that if I'm stiff some careful stretching helps. Great to see you getting into it!

Six!

Postby JohnV » Fri Apr 11, 2008 6:47 pm

Sweats dripping off me and my hearts still slowing down, just finished my 3rd run. 1.8 mls (3k) and I have to slow to walk several times. My legs seem stronger already, which presents more of a challenge for my heart and lungs. I'm getting a new battery for my heart monitor. I know I'm spiking way up on my little trot. It's shure going to be easier to run without my big butt and gut!

Keeping it together with the food. Had a vegan cheese, veganase sandwich on ww for lunch. PB/banana/ww breakfast. Last night an apple cheat before bed, stir fry w/ braggs, yeast for dinner. Of course chai a couple times a day, probably 3 heaping spoons of Assam a day with a couple pints of water and a pint of unsweetened soy milk. Psylium is my "reward" for going to bed with an empty stomach. It feels good to let my GI system rest regularly and wake up with an appetite, rather than a food hangover!

Even if nobody reads these, they're very helpful to me.

Now I'm going to have a banana/soymilk/cocoa (unsweetened) smoothy!

week1

Postby JohnV » Sun Apr 13, 2008 3:32 pm

Just ran a 4th time. 38F was a little challenge to my heaving breathing and gave the sinuses a cleansing burn. My legs are wanting to speed up, but my lungs and heart are struggling to catch up. Today I couldn't keep from running faster, but had to stop more frequently, though recovery is faster, so I could start back to jogging again quicker. In total a faster 3km.

My appetite is growing, and I wasn't able to cut off solids at 8 last night. (damn munchies) I ate a lot, but didn't gorge. Shredded wheat with rice milk was the last thing, and some tortilla chips before that. Had a serving of ww/flax pasta salad, too. Bryani (Indian style of rice and veggies) was my official dinner. This morning I had a psylium dose, chai and a banana. I haven't had potatoes in a week and I'm having a pile for brunch. (not TOO much)

A little up and down on the attitude, but my resolve is growing more established. I'm already impatient for results, so I'll probably add some small, sustainable habit to my daily routine. Watching some utube of vegan strongmen and ladies' fitness competitors was motivating!

Thanks for the love, back at you!

week 2 (day 8)

Postby JohnV » Mon Apr 14, 2008 6:34 pm

Rest day from running. Finished yesterdays food with a Boca burger and cooked spinach, ww biscuits and pb. Today I started with oatmeal and chai, now I'm going to have bryani for a late lunch.

While I may have lost a couple pounds last week, or not, I'm sure I gained some leg muscles and started my metabolism warming up. Really that's what I need, to increase fire and air and reduce water and earth.

I know I need to increase my salad and cooked veggy intake.

Amazing! 5th run just finished. Slowed it way down so I could have fewer walking rests, and somehow trimmed an other few minutes off. I know 3 km in 22 minutes is nothing to brag about, but I'm proud to have lasted into my 2nd week of running! I was walking 4 mph last Summer, now I'm mostly jogging for an approximate average of 5 mph. I'm glad to have not hurt my feet or knees. I must be losing some fat, because I know I'm gaining some muscle. Baby steps, but still forward.

I finished yesterday's chow with a masala dosa and tomato soup, then some pretzels and pb for a snack. Today I've had shredded wheat/strawberries w/soy milk, a falafel sandwich (pita, falafel, tahini, lettuce, tomato, pickled turnip, hot sauce) and chai of course.

Thanks for reading my minutia. This is a helpful confessional. Peace!

Way to go on the 5th run :!: Starting slowly back to running is what you want to do. Definetly don't want to get hurt by doing too much. Sounds like you have a permanent change happening!
