For a mere £25 + postage you can pick up all the equipment you need. It's a fraction of the price bandwagon jumpers have thrown at their kettlebell collections, bench shirts and deadlift suits.

I had a go last weekend. Tried it standing first, put it about 9 metres or so. Then tried a step and throw, didn't feel right but it went about 11 metres.

Then tried the full on glide technique, powering out, putting everything into ti.

Went about 11 metres :?

I know what I was doing wrong though. When pressing the shot against my neck initially I was letting the elbow drop so the forearm was beneath the shot. When you go to throw this means the elbow is out of alignment and you lose all the power. When you try to glide it means the shot tries to come away from the neck and it all goes wrong.

Itching for another try, hopefully this time with video.

Shot puttttt

Postby Oak » Fri Mar 28, 2008 4:28 pm

Well shot putting was never a big strength of mine, having weak as a shrew triceps. But I have thrown it about ten meters before so let's see what I can do now.

I'll give it a wee go on Sunday

We need to focus on that leg thing!

It's a great time to get into the sport if you're an American man. There's an epic three-way US battle coming up at the olympics.

Reese Hoffa - PB 22.43 m

Adam Nelson - PB 22.51m

Christian Cantwell - PB 22.54m

No women signed up yet? You get a lighter shot - and as the pic Oak posted proves, shot putting women are pretty hot

fantastic that you are in Oak!

this strength challenge will be SOLID

This guy, Arsi Harju, runs 100 m in 11.67, benches 250, squats 300, front squats 240, and his shot put pb is 20m80cm.

Just an example of the POWA required.

i've tried to find a shot, but to no avail.
i'll look into shipping but i'm guessing it's pricey to ship one to bermuda.
in lieu of that, would a dumbbell of the same weight be ok??

I'm a flump!

Postby Oak » Thu Apr 03, 2008 1:13 pm

Well due to being a flump (and my right trap still a bit stiff and creaky) I didn't really get any good power into this.

Measured up 9m 23 from the edge of the circle.

I hope to give it another go really soon, maybe even Friday night. Who can outflump me!?
