Is it vegan? Has anyone used it? If so, what were the positive and negative effects?

i've taken NO2 recreationally but never used it for enhancing the performance of an automobile. I can't see how it would not be vegan - what are you suspicious of?

I used this stuff awhile back, I think it was called NOS pump and it was suposed to have some sort of mineral type thing that was also supposed to help your body absorb NO. Anyways, sometimes I really could feel the extra boost of energy. A couple of times it made me get really angry and I freaked out, not sure what happened there.

It could be just L-arginine. This amino acid is the substrate from which nitric oxide (NO) is made. Nitric oxide itself is a small molecule gas which diffuses easily and rapidly - that's why it's used as a signalling molecule, so anything which claims to help its absorption is either bullshit or inserts itself into your cell membranes to act as a transporter, which is also bullshit. If you're interested in amplifying the effect of NO, well, that's what viagra is for.


I think omar tan you're possibly referring to nitrous oxide, which is another pharmacologically active gas - aka laughing gas or entonox. Which is fun, but be careful as too much can cause symptoms such as death.

the way i understood it was that some people have hypersensitivity to it (?) no idea if that's true. I wasn't aware you could o.d. on nitrous.

It's not so much hypersensitivity as just ODing.

Some conditions are particularly noteworthy for increasing risk with nitrous oxide (aka laughing gas or entonox when combined with oxygen) I'll recapitulate my notes on entonox:
Contraindications -
1. Head injuries
2. Closed pneumothorax
3. Decompression sickness
4. First 16 weeks of preganancy
5. Unconsciousness
6. Abdominal distension
7. If using other analgesia/anaesthesia/sedatives/recreational drugs
8. Altered states of consciousness or behaviour
9. Bowel obstruction

The reasons for the some of above are that nitrous oxide expands so-called potential spaces - places you can exude fluids and blood into. But of greatest concern is that that nitrous oxide causes drowsiness and can depress respiratory function; too much and you become unconscious and can't guard your airway. Having a qualified person attend and observe is a reasonable safety measure, but consider this: it's a gas so everyone present is at risk of losing critical thinking. A GP friend of mine used to play gasman for dentists; the number of tooth extractions they had to abort because both the dentist and himself found themselves incapacitated with laughter far outweighed the number of donations to the tooth fairy.

As with all restricted drugs, it's only for use by qualified professionals for the purposes indicated - in this case pain management for muscoskeletal trauma, burns, myocardial infarction, childbirth or painful procedures - and in the absence of contraindications.

lol yes but everywhere i've ever lived people use the seltzer bottles and confectioners N2O for getting high.

maybe that's really the intended use, who knows.

As mentioned above, like nitrous oxide, nitric oxide is a small molecule gas which diffuses rapidly - so supplementing with it say in tablet or powder form doesn't work - when NO is generated, according to a colleague of mine, it works for about ten seconds and is gone. It's often used as a synaptic chemical messenger. Compounds which chemically generate NO - so called NO donors - are usually very toxic - often relatives of cyanide. One of my dissertation students has had to be very careful using one with a lethal dose of 5 mg/kg of human.

The only potential supplement, as ninearms mentions, could be L-arginine - but really speaking I'd be dubious of whether it has any acute effect in a diet that's likely to be high in protein, seeing as it's an amino acid that's synthesised without trouble in healthy adults as well.
