Awesome load of information there. Great people, too. If you search, you can find some threads on training while being vegetarian/vegan.

I highly suggest a visit to the BikeForums if you've not been.

Michigan Masters Swimming
Ann Arbor Masters Swimming <-- that's where I coach!
US Masters Swimming

I just found out that Rip Esselstyn, who wrote the book Engine 2 Diet, advocating a vegan diet, is also a champ Masters Swimmer! He's got a crapload of records for the 45-49 AG. He's FAST too, especially in the backstroke. Holy moly.

Place Event Name Age Club LMSC Time
6 M45-49 100 Free Rip Esselstyn 45 WAWA South Texas 48.57
5 M45-49 50 Back Rip Esselstyn 45 WAWA South Texas 25.44
3 M45-49 100 Back Rip Esselstyn 45 WAWA South Texas 54.43
1 M45-49 200 Back Rip Esselstyn 45 WAWA South Texas 1:56.55
4 M45-49 100 IM Rip Esselstyn 45 WAWA South Texas 54.77
2 M45-49 200 IM Rip Esselstyn 45 WAWA South Texas 2:00.95

That's no joke. Only a few former top collegiate and olympic swimmers in our program can go that fast, and they're well under 40yo.
Context is everything.

Yeah that's amazing to say the least for a 45-49 year old.
