Ryan

Big Black were great- I listened to them through my teens (gee, I'm old) they were really raw and angry. I'm also gutted that I never got to see them live

I'll have to give them a listen again when I lift and see if if I can lift heavier

Mp3 players are great for the gym. Mine has 256 mb memory so I can whack lots of diverse music on it and use it when I run or lift (I need different music for running and lifting)

I was into Metallica years ago, when there Black album came out. But after I heard the lead singer hunted - I couldn't listen to them anymore. I just can't enjoy the music anymore when I hear anti-animal things related to a musician. It makes things hard. Lucky there are heaps of bands/musicians that are animal friendly and talented.
Rollins is a clever guy but the guy does have some Vegetarian issues - I reckon its because Whe used to be Vegan. We've all got ego demons to wrestle, he's no exception.

Wow, I saw Big Black@dc space back when I was in high school! God, that was 20 years ago . . . I am old! Steve Albini is still around making/producing music.

My list of workout tunes (well bands, actually) includes:
Propagandhi, Strike Anywhere, Pennywise, some old Metallica, 7Seconds, Non-Phixion, lots of other hardcore, punk and hip hop - mostly older, like me. I sometimes listen to NPR or even the local light rock station when I run - I find it keeps me breathing easier.

The song 'Headstrong' by Trapt (I think) is good too, but I'm not sure what the rest of their record sounds like.

Happy Birthday Rollins...Today he's what, 43? I've been celebrating his birthday for 12 years now, LOL. Ever since I went to my first concert EVER at the Ranch Bowl in Omaha, NE. Tool opening for Rollins Band in the fall of '91 I believe. Sheesh, I wasn't even in high school then. They were touring in support of "End of Silence". Bought it on cassette, sweet. It was right when Nirvana began cleansing the airwaves.

There is a rumored article or interview out there where he talks about veg*nism. Anybody know where it is? It sounds like a rumor.

I train to Dead Prez as well, they are brilliant. Do you have Revolutionary But Gangsta xDieguitox? Just heard xMaroonx recently and was pretty impressed!

Damn! That got me right off Metallica! I wasn't impressed with their whingeing about Napster etc, gazillionaires as they are, but hunting? The limit! Metallica will now be erased from my music collection!

See ya,
Billy

PS Anyone into hiphop/rap and who's not listened to Dead Prez and Paris yet: you're missing out, they're TOPS!! :)

Is Paris still making music? I got loved his first two albums, but I thought he fell off a bit after that . . . Guerilla Funk was okay I guess . . .

The Bay area's put out a bunch of good, often political hip hop, but not gotten much pub . . .

mtbkid, if you liked devil made me do it, sleeping with the enemy and guerilla funk, you are in for a treat with the latest Paris almun, Sonic Jihad. Check out www.guerillafunk.com

I've been into paris from 1990 - it is easily the longest i've ever listened to any artists consistantly :)

workout music: lately none. The gym has stupid background music coming from some music TV channel, but when i train i don't hear or see anything, well, thats the aim which i am working towards.

In my dream house where i have my own training space i would blast hardcore or good hip hop...

I lost all respect for Rollins at a show in Amsterdam when he grabbed a fan who was taking a photo of him from the pit (I'd seen the guy ask for permission and Rollins said yes) and wrapped the mike wire around his neck, telling him he'd ****ing kill him if he tried to take another photo. Poor guy was terrified. I thought that a really asinine way to behave. So everytime I listened to a Rollins song after that I just saw the terrified fan with the mike wire around his neck :?

Sometimes it's best not to know too much about how musicians behave in private (for example Earth Crisis- anyone seen their video )

Hey, in Metallica's defense, only one member hunts: James Hetfield. Kirk Hammett is at least a vegetarian if not vegan. I really don't care about their napster ordeal either, it's the music that matters man!

I also have been listening to a lot of System of a Down, there music is great to run to because it really keeps my pace/heart rate up because of the fast tempo.

Let me see.......Metallica, Megadeth, Manowar, Blind Guardian, Kreator,Skid Row, Bon Jovi and various others.
On the subject of metallica, it was Bob Rock who destroyed them with the Black album, oh and I had no idea Kirt Hammet was vege, does anyone have a link to information on that?
Jame Hetfield and Lars Ulrich are arse-holes!
Red flash clouds choking out the morning sky
They said it'd never come, we knew it was a lie
All forms of life die now the humans all succumb
Time to kiss your ass goodbye, the end has just begun!

bump back up- any new or existing board members want to talk about what they train to? Doesn't need to be music for weightlifting- can be for anything. I'm into DJ Pathaan's Indian Sunset at the moment- asian global beats, really innovative stuff. That and Nancy Sinatra
