this time from NW England.

Ive been a dietary vegan* for about 8 months but a vegetarian for over two years. Im early 20's looking forward to yet more educational study, since it beats settling down to 'the real world'. As well as that I try and do my bit of political activism, be it for the AR movement or for various anti-authoritarian causes.
But im currently looking to get in shape because I want to be a good hunt sab  so I started to eat a well balanced diet, devoid of junk and im hoping to put in some regular time on work-outs, so any tips would be gratefully recieved..

Heard about the forumn through, the lovely vegan society people, or at some point I have to become a member of, :)

Hi there!

Nice to see a North West Vegan around.

As you are still finding out about biproducts etc (and lets face it, so are we all) then check out www.isitvegan.info It is a website that Neil and I (from Realfood) keep up to help people find out what is okay and what is not. Should help a bit while you are finding your feet.

Are you sabbing now. :( Cubbing is really soul destroying at times. Who do you sab with? I used to sab with Liverpool, occasionally went out with Manchester.

Now I am in the Midlands, so this season coming up I imagine I will be out with Derby.

Let us know what your long term fitness goals are, and what your general level of health is. Then you should get some good advise off people.

Anyway, good to have you here! See you round the board.

You're not dumb! Sorry, it is something that is done in the UK and Ireland. We have hunters out here killing foxes for sport, and a group of people who don't approve of it get together and sabotage the hunt, and save the fox. We also sab shoots etc by standing in front of the shooters. In America the same tactic would get you killed, or locked up. Well, we have had two people die in the UK, and every year we get serious injuries, and it is easy to get a criminal conviction for caring. On the other hand it is safer to do here than in the US (where you would be held under terrorist offenses) and two deaths in a couple of decades is better than I would expect in a gun culture.

Check out the other "Hunt Sab" thread for a more thorough description and links.

cheers mary, im not sabbing at the moment but Im involved with some AR people and come the hunting season I will hopefully get involved as best I can, with the NW group.

And I do regularly check isitvegan, I was told about them at the Manchester Radical Bookfair last year, so its been a great help. Im just trying to find alternatives to some of the clothes Ive got,

Fitness wise my diet as come on leaps and bounds in the last few weeks, a reliance on about 50% raw fuit/veg for energy, with an abundance of high fibre rice/bread/pasta and with a regular daily intake of linseed. If theres any specific foods, or food groups you recommend Id be all ears.

I decided recently also to lead up to a regular weight training, more for tonning muscles rather than for anything special like body building. So im trying for a regular twice a week program of 70 mins weight training, as well as a daily array of push-ups, sit-ups and bench pressers. I figured its better to 'warm-up' to a consistent practice than to become to heavy too quickly. Maybe some martial arts development awaits

if thats so, we've probably met! I was there selling sandwhiches and stuff :)

Welcome to the board mate, hope you'll find it useful. Have a quick look around the forums like diet & nutrition for tips for gaining muscle mass and bodybuilding section for good training tips, collective knowledge here is starting to get really good :)

Hello & nice one with going vegan & joining the board aswell!

I'm actually from Preston aswell (even though it says manchester on my thing) so it would be good to meet up sometime & talk shit.

I'm actually looking for a training partner so it would be good to meet for that side of things aswell.

If you wanna get in touch then send me a private message ok. Look forward to hearing from ya. Cheers.

I was there. We organised it to help pay for the Vegan Festival the day before. I was the tall woman taking money at the table by the door.

Were you at the Festival? We should have a video up on www.realfood.org.uk quite soon showing what a great and glorious day it was... Again, you may have seen me, Séamus or Neil at the Realfood stall. If you were you will remember the vegan creem eggs...
