Strongman pbs

Postby Jonathan » Mon Apr 02, 2007 10:10 am

On request I am starting a new thread for strongman pbs, so that we can all keep better track of them. I thought about a table for it, but it is much to complicated as there are so many different events.

So, in order to have some uniformity this is how it will work.

Log press:

Max weight for a single and then your best set of reps (your discretion - which ever rep set you are proudest of).

Thick bar clean and press:

Max weight for single, and best rep set.

Yoke:

Max weight for 20m (and time if you have it).

Farmer's walks:

Max weight for 20m and best distance set. Heaviest farmer's pickup can also be included. Times can be included if known.

Stones:

Heaviest stone lifted to at least a 54inch/137cm platform, and best rep set. Times can be included if known. Please state whether you were using tacky or not.

Tyre flip:

Heaviest tyre flipped and best rep set. Times can be included if known.

18 inch deadlift:

Max weight and best rep set.

Then after that you can post any other random strongman lifts that you have done that are worth mentioning.

I think that I have remembered all the main lifts, but if I have missed anything out, please tell me and I will edit this post to include it.

Also, for the sake of uniformity and time saving for myself, distances and weights in metric please! Many thanks!

Now, lets get strong!

Jonathan

edit: When entering your pbs, I'll copy and paste them to the first post so that they are all together.

this thread will be very handy!

ok here is my first entry.

but that yoke rule of no drops makes absolutely no sense - never seen a comp where you cant drop it! Also, the logs are so different, as well as thick bars, so i dont know if there is point of trying to standardise?

I'll just list my lifts if thats ok, at least they are on a same page without having to dig them up from pages and pages of training logs :D

JP

- Log, IFSA big log - Max 97.5kg, 90kg for 2, 80 for 6
- farmers - 130kg for 20m, 110kg for 30m (1 turn), 100kg for 40m (2 turns)
- farmers holds - 120kg for 43 secs, 130kg for 29 secs, 150kg (no own pickup) for 19.7 secs
- stones - 140kg to 54inch platform, 105 for 3 reps
- 60mm axle deadlift - max: 180kg
- yoke - 20m x 230kg - 22.6 seconds
- 18 inch deadlift - 220kg

Fair point on the no drops yoke thing - I'll remove that (I just don't like to drop the yoke!).

Log press is hard to standardise so lets just say that people should put the diametre of the log after the weight so that we know what they are talking about.

Ooh, I also took the liberty JP of adding your tyre flip numbers into the stats too :D

Perhaps divide the different lifts into more than one table for instance one table for log lifts (1RM/reps) etc ? In my opinion the current format probably works well for remembering your own PBs or for checking a particular PB for somebody else but it's quite hard to get an overview .

Thanks jono, forgot about the tyre! :D

But hey, if you would have posted your tyre PB on sugden, you would have been reported to the dubious PB committee, 400x3 on the same session???!?!? :D

yeah, there cant really be an overview, because the toys are so different. Like the log, there is the Ed Cult tree trunk, the small log, the bigger IFSA log and so on.

Or axle/thick bar work, variation of thicknesses etc.

farmers walk implements vary greatly, the height of the pick up, the knurling in the handles and so on, again, huge variation.

So the only time we can compare is when we go head to head on same toys!

I am personally not looking to compare anyway, just to have one place where i can check my PBs easily, and then see what Jonathan has done, so i can do more in my next training session

Hope tylerm, veganessentials, sensless and others will put down their pbs as well!

Thick bar clean and press:
1x185 lb
3x175 lb pulled off of cinder blocks, so from about 8" off the ground

Farmer's walks:
2x1 200 lb per hand x 100 ft, one turnaround.. more to come soon!

Stones:
Heaviest stone lifted yet 240 lb
Best rep set with tacky: 240 lb to 4' platform 7 times
Best rep set w/o tacky: 165 lb to 4' platform 3x8

Tyre flip:
2x5 700 lb tire, about 50 feet each set, didn't time it (this was my first time last week, more to come for sure!)

Conan's Wheel
Heaviest Set: 2x670 lb
Reps: 4x500 lb, 3x600 lb

EDIT: I should state that my heaviest set of 2x670 lb was the 3rd heavy set after the best reps of 4x500 lb, and 3x600 lb.

My best work with the tire can be updated:

Tyre flip:
3x5 700 lb tire

One more set of 5 than I had last time. Also worked with a 12" log today, but no sets over 135 lb, and some sets just cleaning 165 lb, just practice stuff, so no use adding any log work on until I get something work mentioning.

Been a while since I've trained with any of the implements, but here goes for last spring/summer's bests -

Log press:

8" log @ 255 lbs (115.9kg), done in a contest, tried to jump to 275 lbs. but only got it just over the top of my head so that was too much. My log ain't that great.

Thick bar clean and press:

Haven't ever tried to max out. No idea.

Yoke:

No idea of time, but about 15 months ago I did 650 lbs. (295.45kg) for about 70 feet (21.3m), rested about 30 seconds, and came back. I think that there was one set down each way. Last time I took a yoke out I just went light with about 227kg, doing a longest walk of 36.5m before I stopped.

Farmer's walks:

Haven't done farmers in ages. Heaviest walk I'd ever tried back when I did them was 250 lbs. (113.6kg) per hand for about 50-60 feet (15-18m). Could probably manage considerably longer or quite a bit heavier for that distance now. Heaviest pick-up I did was 285 lbs. per hand (129.5kg) for some holds, now that the lower back is better it should be a good deal more next time I test.

Stones:

Heaviest stone was 345 lbs (156.8kg) to 54", done with tacky. Hardest set was a 280 lb. (127.2kg) stone lifted 5 times to 54", then 5 times to the lap, then 5 times for a row to near lap height, all in one painfully tough set of about 90 seconds.

Tyre flip:

Haven't had many tires to flip - gone from a 650 lb. tire (295.45kg) straight to a 1000+ lb. tire, and at the time I couldn't get the 1000ish one past waist height. Tried a 1200 lb. (545kg) and got it off the ground about a foot, but that was it. The 650 I've flipped in a contest, did 8 full flips in around 41 seconds at best (covered about 75 feet), probably could have done a few more, but when you've covered the necessary distance, why go any further? :D

18 inch deadlift:

Just starting to do these more now. Recently did 545 lbs (247.7kg) for 3 reps, did 585 lbs. (265.9kg) for a single. Should be good for 600+ lbs. next time I try them.

great work Ali! Good to see you around again. Do you have any comps coming up?

few of us on this board got a bit carried away and started doing strongman comps as well this year :D Five of us did the first timers strongman, and now Jonathan and me are doing Frasenburg next, as well as Severn Valley.

Excellent stuff folks!

Tyler - very impressive conans wheel walks and stone lifting! Shame on you for posting in pounds and feet though!

Ryan - yoke is seriously impressive, as are the stone lifts. I am confident that your 18inch deadlift is not far off 300kg with some specific training. Keep up the good work!

Ali - nice to have you onboard again. Great stuff all round, especially on the yoke, tyre flip and deadlift.
