I've decided to ditch my local gym and it's crazy new prices and buy a powercage and weights etc.

I'm 95% sure that I will buy this one:

I don't know much about this sort of stuff, but it looks like a pretty good setup.

I need some reassurance that I am making a good decision, because I am a total tightarse when it comes to spending this much money

Looks not bad, but i'd be inclined to hunt a bit, and see if it's feasible to get stuff separately for cheaper. The pulley shit - you will pay for it and don't need it (imo). The cage is decent, looks quite narrow, but similar to mine probably. Rated to 700lbs seems low, though i am not sure how this compares to others. Weights look decent, though you will need more than 145kg. What about cages on their own, a basic, decent bench, and about 200kg oly weights?

As for spending the cash, i say don't think too much about it, you will get years and years of use out of it, and a ton of enjoyment too.

I got my stuff for a bit cheaper(didn't get a bench because I already had one, but got a rack to store the weights on). I'd say it is worth it but like buzz said a little bit of hunting got get you a better deal.

I'm a big fan of the PowerTec Systems. For what you do I don't think you'll need the tower. Looks like this guy can hook you up:

Agreed, powertec is solid, but the price is uber-high in australia eh I'd be too tight to spend that much i think...

Tis true (why you still do dishes by hand ) It's approx $300 higher (USD) then I paid. I imagine without tower it's a bit cheaper. But considering they had to import the system, not too bad. Perhaps you can find another brand with similar specs?

Hmm, i think it's about £250/$500(u.s.)/$600(aus dollars) more than I paid, and that was having it been imported to the UK as well. Did get it on sale right enough, but i think the standard price isn't hugely more.

What about second hand stuff Hcore iv? Any Australian/Melbourne strength/PL forums that you could ask on see if anyone's selling stuff?

Very true, and can also be useful for 'cep work if done at the right angle with the correct resistance

Correction: if done at the right angles. You can never get a fully developed ceps if you dont attack them from more than one angle .

i personally would never buy a power rack that i couldn't go "plate to plate" with. i know you can make some modifications, but its the principle of the matter.
