ski/snowboard week dep 30dec anyone?

Postby mooovert » Sat Nov 18, 2006 11:22 am

hi guys, long time :)
just thought i'd ask as my usual new years trip is not happening this year :(

so does anyone want to celebrate new years in a ski resort? kind of like a vf week on snow. we need a group of 4/5 for the best self-catered deals. 3 possibly.

found a package to meribel from birmingham £390ish. includes flights, accom, transfers. excludes lift pass and equipment hire.

If anyone has issues with flying, i have muchos experience with DIY approach. eg: below comes in at £310...
Currently sncf train london-bourg st maurice rtn £180, bus to resort £20, decent 4/5 pers apartments in vald'isere currently £110 p/p. DIY is usually cheaper. Train will take 10 hrs + 1hr bus. flights to geneva are £200 but then transfers from there are 3-4 hrs...

why am i asking?
1. hol with vegans :)
2. week in the alps breaks the long dark winter.
3. the grp i normally go with are now going to canada for a week in jan. i can't justify going on a plane for 20hrs just for 6 days + overall cost is likely to be £1000! they have deliberated for so long and now i'm without a plan.

Important stuff:

Obviously as it's getting close we'll have to move fast. I feel i can trust the regulars here with payment for accom if i pay for it. everything else can be booked by the individual.

So... if you are a definate then (assurances of) payment of your share of the accom (call it £100) will secure your place. Once we have a full apmt we can book the accom and travel.

You may feel i need checking out. I have seen a few vf members and am happy to meet up or chat about this (im in Oxford). Did lunch with fruitbat and gelert not long ago - guys i know you're going on the veggiesnow trip in march but it'd be cool if you could make this one too!

I am tempted, but am not rolling in cash at the moment, plus, I am on Jury Service in December with no idea of how long it will go on for, so I can't commit to anything at all right now! Sorry that's a bit vague, but I did want to express an interest if not for this event, then for a future ski/board event with fellow vegans (I've suggested it for Vegan Fitness Week 2007!). Hope you manage to get a group together. Keep us posted please, as if it IS going ahead, and my Jury Service ends quickly, I might think blow the expense and come!

AbFab :( jury service can get in the way but if it's an interesting trial not so bad i guess. hey, pass the message on!

further info:

i think travel costs will get silly in dec. but there seems to be plenty accom at mo in valdisere.
i'll wait for everyone to think about for a few days.

i keep mentioning valdisere as its my fav (not that ive been to many). the ski area is one of the biggest in europe and is snow-sure. also had nice pizzas eating out there :). as it's a large resort supermarkets cater for vegans well.

as for costs, i'll only go if costs are reasonable. ive organised about 8 diy trips in past and all have cost me no more than £600 (that's everything, getting there, accom, food, drink, lift pass, peak week premium) others in the grp drink lots and eat out more so they spend more.

if you, or anyone else interested, is a first-timer then grp lessons are around £20 a day so that's something to factor in, but then you'll not need a lift pass (about £20 a day) for half the week. equip hire is about £70 a week.

hope there's enough interest on vf for this!

Annual vegan ski trip

Postby Sophie » Mon Mar 31, 2008 4:29 pm

Hi all,

I'm already looking into the options for the 6th annual vegan ski & boarding trip for Veggie Snow. If you are interested on being on the emailing list (Fruitbat already comes along - a superb skier) just drop me a private message. More at: www.veggiesnow.org
