Hey, I just got the link here from the veganbodybuilding mailing list on yahoo. It's a pretty cool site you have here, thanks for making it!

I just started lifting weights, and right now I'm doing a full-body workout every 3 days. After a couple of months (when hopefully my muscles don't get so sore and are used to working out) I want to change, and start working on different muscle groups each day. I read about some of your guys routines at http://www.veganbodybuilding.org/ - but I was wondering what kind of routines you did in the beginning, when you first started using weights.

Did you read the routines on the downloadable guides section of the VBB site http://www.veganbodybuilding.org/guides.htm also are you after size or strength primarily?
If it's size did you read Robert Cheekes guide to training http://www.veganbodybuilding.org/robert ... aining.htm
Normally I'd answer with a longer more personal response, but I'm dead busy at the moment.
If you have any aims that could help us to personalise your training a bit. Like if your shoulders are small or you want bigger biceps etc or you want to gain/lose weight all that is important when planning a routine & remember the routine is only a third of the "whole package", you also need to sort out nutrition & recovery to get the "full package".

The routines what we, or at least I, have been doing when we were beginners might not be what I would suggest though ;)

When i started lifting, i used to follow routines from Flex muscle comic and was wasting months if not couple years on routines which were not very smart.

If you are a beginner I would suggest focusing on basics: basic compound movements like squats, deadlifts, bent-over rows, bench press, dips, standing barbell shoulder presses and so on. The links Pete gave have some good ones, have a look and post back when you have found something which you like.

Hey Pete, thanks for the links, that's exactly what I was looking for - especially the guide at http://www.veganbodybuilding.org/guides.htm. ... And to answer your question - Basically, what I want to do is try to gain muscle weight all around. I'm pretty skinny, about 6 ft. and 151 lbs. I saw a guy on veganbodybuilding that went from about 150lbs to over 200, so I know it's definitely possible.

Yep, listen to the JP he's one of a couple of guys on the VBB list who's made fantastic gains over the last 12 months, about as much as any non-juiced strength trainer can hope for (if they're lucky!).

Haha, funny. I guess I'm the skinny guy around here now. I'm really determined though, so I think that's going to change.

I like the quote from the Beginner's Guide to Bodybuilding - "The stereotypical view of a vegan is a skinny, pale, weak, salad eating pencil-neck. It’s time to change this."

Tell you what Will. You focus on training hard, & getting enough food & rest & in 6 months you'll have people really noticing a change & by thebeginning of 05 you wont recognise your own body! My suggestion, get a picture or 2 of you topless, right now, take one again after 6 months of hard training & again in a years time. Work hard & you'll stun yourself :twisted: Consider being on the WIP pages if you want an extra bit of incentive. It's supposed to be there to chart your journey from small to HOOOGE :!:

That's one of the aims of the WIP pages. I was inspired by Jim Morris winning the Mr Olympia Masters while vegan & Robbie Hazeley getting top 3 in Mr GB Masters & numerious other contests, but it's also nice to see that us normal Joes can get bigger & stronger without giving up on a life & spending every minute in the gym.
If you fancy going on the WIP pages you can E-mail direct pete@veganbodybuilding.org Just a bit about your diet, training, goals etc & a few pics (you can attach them or snail mail if you need to). You'll get all the support & motivation you'll ever need right here & also some sound advice of training from people who've been there before you
