Josh's 2007 Log

Postby veganjosh » Tue Jan 09, 2007 7:27 am

Once again, I'm going to attempt to start keeping a regular training log. I'm currently training for my first OL meet (I didn't end up doing the last one), to take place on Feb. 3 --- it's not a big meet or anything, so I won't be trying to peak for it. Anyways...I'm training 5 days/week and doing yoga 3 days/week now, and progress in terms of technique and flexibility is coming along nicely.

Monday 1/8:
AM: 1 hour yoga
PM:
Warmup with overhead squats

Push Press: 45x4x5

Hang power snatch from mid-thigh: 40x3x7
Doing these from mid-thigh is harsh...we start them right at the point where you jump, so there's no time to build up velocity before exploding.

Hang power clean from mid-thigh + Push Jerk: 52x3+1x7
Clean Pulls: 90x5x5
Front Squat: 97x5x7

It's good to see you posting your log again Josh :D

Out of curiousity, how far are you from competing as an olympic lifter?

Jonathan- I'm still a long, long way to go...one of the kids I train with snatches ~120 and clean/jerks ~160 at a slightly lower bodyweight than me, and he's still not the best in the US in his weight class. What's interesting is that my strength is almost the same as his (he's stronger overhead pressing), I'm just years away on the technique and flexibility.

Anyways, as for yesterday's workout:

1.9:
Warmup with overhead squats
Push Jerk: 40x3, 50x5x5
Power Snatch: 42x3x7
Power Clean: 40x3, 50x3, 60x3x7
Back Squat: 90x5, 110x7, 115x7, 120x7x2

I tore a callous clean off on Monday, and I couldn't find tape to tape up my hand with, so this workout was one of the more painful things I've done in recent memory.

I had a hectic weekend, so I didn't get a chance to write up my workouts. Here's today's, though:

1.15:
Push press: 40x5x4, 50x2x5
Power snatch: 40x3x7, 45x2x5

Power snatch + push jerk: 40x3+1x7
Very weird combination of exercises, but it worked out all right in the end.

Clean pulls: 70x5x5, 80x3x5
I ripped my right thumb open on one set of the 80s, so I had to finish off the last couple of sets with straps. It's amazing how harsh on your hands it is to hook grip every set. It doesn't hurt anymore, but I do tear my hands up more than I previously thought possible. I guess I've just got to get more dilligent about filing callouses off.

Front squats: 80x5x7
I'm pretty sick today, and this was a long workout (45 sets...19 of which were power snatches!), so I decided to keep these really light. Back in the gym tomorrow for an even higher volume workout!
