I keep wanting to do glasgow strength strongman again but they moved the weights up :(

Yeah, I really enjoy deadlifting but hopefully I'll be able to gain sometime soon. I didn't have any pain so I think there is potential there with sumo

Just had a look at the weights they do now, it's a shame they've gone under 90. They look like light for U90 but that's still tough at U80 and I increasingly realise U80 natural without being kind of fat at our height is quite a challenge. It is generally a bit shit that U80 barely exists

again a slow session cause noobs, not complaining though cause I don't mind teaching. I taught someone how to do a half decent side kick, it's quite satisfying

better form with wider stance and don't think it's silly wide like it used to be. More pushing knees forward and more improved mobility still needed though

maybe technical F on 7, back cramped up on one side, possibly squint. Pretty inevitable it was going to happen though if I was going to pick which rep it cramped on I would have picked that one. Played with elbow flare timing on first set with 72, didn't like it

more of the same, ETA on deadlifting 8 weeks which isn't too bad,. She made the good point that 4ml oil IM injections probably won't be doing my glutes much good which may be why they are weirdly tight compared to the rest of me, even if I don't have scar tissue which who knows, need to talk to endo about it

pad work- jumping front kicks, double punches, turning into reverse turning kick

Patterns
few little things to work on in current pattern, one being a higher side kick which is a glutes problem


I'm going to miss a lot of Thursday sessions so almost certainly won't be able to grade in September but instructor is talking about doing senior grade classes every two weeks in the new academic year which would be awesome

on my own in the gym and actually really productive cause of the mirrors

lots of blocks
discovered my foot work isn't always great, don't always bring my back leg in far enough before it goes forward which looks less smooth

front kicks
sometimes my knee wanders off to the side a bit

working on side kick height
got it up to head height

turning kicks
worked out what instructor is talking about with my knee being at the wrong angle

patterns
worked out why I don't always finish in the right place on some of the earlier patterns
also need to watch the angle my back foot ends up at on turns
on red belt pattern I have my arm waving around too much as I go from an overhead block to upper cut

Heavy bag
breaking style back fists (mostly cause the noise is quite satisfying)
jumping reverse turning kicks, need to get non-kicking leg up and watch kicking leg angle
jumping back kick, filmed from a useless angle

then did some chins



18th July

Bench: 20kg x10 40kg x5 60kg x5 70kg x5 80kg x6
was a bit disappointed by this, I remember the day of 80x12 quite easy, but actually it's over 5 which is the point and max of 90-95 is decent right now

Close grip: 50kg 3x10

incline flies and pallof

started doing pulls then remembered I'm going climbing tomorrow and would like useful lats


end of wave, going on holiday on Thursday so will do a few piss about sessions and have a deload before starting next

3 step sparring, mostly just teaching it then some one step with instructor, working on grabbing kicks with circular block

27th July

At Berlin Strength

some bad bar path crept in but felt good

Close grip: 50kg 3x10

Leg press
not much, weird swingy type that I didn't like

Slam ball: 50kg x3 70kg 2xf, 1
lifted like stone (I wore a tshirt I like so no real stones), kind of hard to judge without a platform to put it on but last one had better technique and probably could have got got it on a platform

hadn't went through them all for a bit too long, was more thinking involved than there should be. But main thing to work on with current pattern was side kick height, much better though leg isn't getting full straight yet. Better glute flexibility is a good sign for physio too

going to add a week into juggernaut for next week to try to make the final one more achievable, the volume has drops off to quick for me but I suspect it may be as much psychological as anything else. I'll do it lighter as a semi-deload so I can run it right into the peaking wave. Not cause I especially want to peak now but to see how it goes for future reference

Could have ground out 85 but spotter grabbed it too soon, still not good, going for a few sets of 2. I really can't decided if I had a bad session or my max is really 85ish. I'd have guessed max more 95ish which is ok controlling for BW loss, loosing 20kg from injury would be hugely demotivating. Could to get my head in it, hope for a good spot and try 87.5 next week. Will add needing to find a good training partner on to my list of moans too

have fixed arched though camera is doing it's weird turning the wrong way thing

Held kicks going back and forward: front, side, turning
all high section

Technique work: reverse angle punch, palm upward block, palm pushing block, circular block

3 step, 2 step and 1 step sparring
trying to get some self defence stuff in to make it look fancier

Patterns: chon gi, toi gye and hwarang
work on getting them sharp
need to go through them slowly and make sure there's proper sine wave in every movement



15th Aug

felt like I'd expect so no should injuries returning at least

pretty much 2hrs of hand techniques, no max bench tomorrow

I've worked out that Juggernaut isn't fixable for working into low rep/high weight. Given my training constraints I really do need to stop being lazy and write my own programme, there is much reading to do first

testing out one of instructor's more creative ideas, it involved a balloon tied to my head

new programme is wrote, RPE based and I'm looking forward to it and I should remember that enjoying training counts for a lot

that was unexpected, I failed 85 for 1 like 2 weeks ago and I'd feel 90% confident of a 100 max from how that felt,which would be back to almost 1.5BW, technique isn't even looking especially nice

Stretching, finally got front splits. Pulled my hamstring a bit so skipped yoga, one of those that'll be fine if I leave it alone for a bit but would probably get worse if I don't.

Week after freshers week=noobs week. I did a few punches, a few front kicks and demonstrated some patterns whilst trying to be nice to the teenagers
