I think I have always wanted to compete in strongman. There are comps in Sydney I guess.

I've always much preferred a mix of training, like the main lifts plus clean and jerk/overhead of any kind, and have always wanted to be able to try the events, but have never had access to the equipment. It would mean having to buy or make a bunch of stuff because there are no gyms around here with anything like that.

I've been doing things a bit differently the last couple of weeks. Routine looks like this -

Day 1

Dumbbell clean & jerk/press
Push press
Squat
Pushups & abs

Day 2

Dumbbell snatch
Bench
Deadlift
Dumbbell bench, rows, curls

With Squat, deadlift, bench, press I Stick to sets of 5, 3, 2 and work up in weight. I've been using the Slingshot for some overload on the bench, usually a couple of doubles with 20 kg more than I did on the last raw set. Sometimes I'll do some deadlifts against bands at the end too.

This is what I did today.

DB Snatch, sets of 6 up to 30 kg - These are really just a good warmup.
Bench - 5 x 60, 3 x 80, 2 x 100 kg. Slingshot on - 2 x 120 kg.
Deadlift - Warmup, then 5 x 140, 3 x 160, 2 x 180 kg.
Dumbbell bench - 5 x 28 kg, 5 x 36 kg, 5 x 40 kg.
Dumbbel Rows - 3 x 5 x 50 kg.

I've set myself a goal of only using 20's and 10's for the main lifts. In the words of James Henderson, "Why play with little change when you can go for the big dollars?" So as for progressing, well I'll stick to a weight until I own it and then move on.

Didn't feel the best today.. Our dog, Oliver, died yesterday morning after battling with heart failure for about a year. He was 13.

5 x 60
3 x 80
5 x 1 x 100
8 x 80

My bench sucks and I don't know why.

Rack pulls from knee
3 x 60
3 x 100
3 x 120
3 x 140
3 x 160
3 x 180
3 x 200
3 x 220
3 x 240

That sucks bud, *hugs*

Like the sound of mixing up Powerlifting with more general strength stuff. As for bench, I find high rep dumbell bench as assistance and occasional trips into floor press as a main lift to be useful ways of pushing it up...

Thanks. I'll try that. I could probably use some higher rep stuff and more muscle in my upper body.

Today

Squat
5 x 60
3 x 80
3 x 100
3 x 120
3 x 140
3 x 160

Wanted to go to 180 but lower back is feeling a bit tender. Probably from those rack pulls I did the other day. :x

Push Press
5 x 40
3 x 60
7 x 80
7 x 60 - strict

Seated DB Press
5 x 22
5 x 26
5 x 30
3 x 32

10 x 22 - standing, one arm at a time

Might give my back a rest for a few days. Oh well, I can bench instead.
