12 weeks, should be plenty of time.

That schedule has you lifting 125kg, is that for 1x5 or just one rep?

1 x 130kg @ 65kg is not crackpipe. Make it happen.

Glad you're ok Kali! It will be exciting to follow your progress on the program...

Although it sounds like I will get hopelessly left behind! :o :)

It's not so much about the pounds, it's the body fat. Boobs are fat

I think by the time I get to 125kg it will only be 1 rep, although it would be awesome to get to 130kg too

I don't think you'll be able to tell much on progress until the 2nd month or so when I start getting some PBs again. Listen woman, you totally beat me to 115kg deadlift and you're squatting heavier than me... I have to do something to compete with you!

Week 1

Session 2

squats: 10X bar, 5X5 70 lbs
deadlift: 3X5* 105 lbs
overhead press: 5X5 45 lbs (these were actually kind of fun)

assisted dips and close-grip chin ups: 2X8 each
plank on bosu: 1X 1.2 minutes

*I decided 1 set of 5 reps for deadlifts is too sad. This first month I'll do 3X5, 2nd month 2X5, and final month 1X5 to stick exactly with the program at heavy ass weights.

I'm really curious to see how my strength and body will change by just doing the three primary lifts + barbell row or overhead press according to the workout schedule. I think I'll add dips, chin ups and push ups to the mix just so that I have my blood pumping a few more minutes at the gym. It's definitely convenient though to get in and out of the gym in a shorter amount of time, especially since I have to catch a train for work mid-morning.

My ASICS, nothing special. Have any recommendations? I know there's a thread somewhere on this forum dedicated to what footwear to use while deadlifting.

Week 1

Session 3

cardio: 45+ minutes biking to/from gym

squats: 5X bar, 5X 65 lbs, 5X5 75 lbs
bench press: 5X bar, 5X 55 lbs, 5X5 60 lbs
barbell row: 5X5 70 lbs

My arms were pooped by the time I got to these!

push ups: 2X10
assisted dips: 2X10

My first day of teaching is tomorrow... I hope the kids don't eat me alive!!!!

If you can lift in your socks then that is best, I don't feel right deadlifting unless I am just in socks. Not wearing any shoes gives you that extra little bit of height making the deadlift slightly easier.
Second best get a pair of flat converse Chuck Taylor low top style shoes or any of these new natural running shoes with no padding.
If your ASICS are your running shoes I defiantly wouldn't use them. The padding isn't designed for that weight so will get ruined making them useless for running. Also when you lift they will not be stable, like deadlifting on a bosu ball.

Chuck's look well hardcore or if you really want to make a statement get some Vans slip-ons like vegan hal wears.

basically what Baldy said. You can buy wrestling slippers/ballet slippers too if your gym doesn't allow barefoot. Myself I deadlift in some high top chuck taylor style shoes (no point to the high top but it isn't a problem so long as you don't lace it up all the way). But yeah you don't want to do any powerlifting type stuff in your running shoes.

Chuck Taylor type stuff (i think chuck taylor may be sweatshop but you can get many imitations that aren't. Mine are ethletics) is widely thought to be the best all round cheap shoe (it'll do you well for squat, bench, OHP, deadlift) even if it isn't the perfect shoe for any specific lift.

But yeah losing the padding should help the lifts, you lose some of force you generate with padding/gel crap.

If you are feeling glamorous Buzz is selling some very pretty deadlift shoes just now for what seems a pretty reasonable price. I'll probably get them for myself at some point.

Just started watching the new season of Jersey Shore Italy. Watching Snooki trying to explain that Italy is a big part of the country Europe, it is hard to imagine you live in the same country as her!

The thought of going barefoot in my gym gives me the chills. It is DIRTY. I didn't want to admit this but a few weeks ago I got a bacteria infection on my back after I did squats with a tank top. Lesson learned. Now I make sure to wear fully covering t-shirts or sweatshirts.

Thanks for the advice about shoes though. I lifted in my old ass pair of Pumas today. They are mesh with flat soles. It did feel a bit better, more natural.

Aaaahhhh ignorance comes in many shapes and sizes all over the world. Just remember: Snookie doesn't equal the U.S. (maybe 25% ).

Week 2

Session 1

squats: 5X bar, 5X 70 lbs, 5X5 80 lbs
deadlift: 3X5 115 lbs
overhead press: 5X5 45, 50, 45, 50, 50 lbs

Towards the end, my overhead press started to look more like push press. I think it was fatigue and my body using all its might to get that damn bar over my head!

Thanks for the link Rach but I think I'll stick to my Pumas for now.

My first week of teaching has come and gone. I enjoy my kids and I'm hoping I can help them reach their best potential throughout/by the end of the year. It's sad how many of them are 1-3 grade levels behind though :( I can't help wondering... if their teachers in First through Fifth grade actually paid attention to them, would their learning needs have been met so they wouldn't be as far behind as they are now? The teacher I'm co-teaching with for Social Studies just received student report cards from last year. All but like 2 of them in the class failed Math

I took a longer route to the gym today since it was so nice out. I switched to seated cable rows because my back wasn't feeling nice last time I did barbell rows. Until I get to 135 lbs for barbell rows so I can actually use olympic size plates, I'm going to stick to seated rows.

Week 2

Session 2

cardio: 55+ minutes biking roundtrip to/from gym

squats: 3X5 45 (bar), 65, 75 lbs; 5X5 85 lbs
bench press: 2X5 45 (bar), 55 lbs; 5X5 65 lbs
seated cable rows: 3X5 70 lbs, 2X5 85 lbs

captain's chair: 2X20
plank on bosu: 1 minute

According to the schedule, I was supposed to do barbell rows at 75 lbs but the weight stack only had 70 lbs and then 85 lbs.

I'm meeting my dad, his new girlfriend, and two of my cousins in the city tonight at Candle 79. I might lay outside and get my tan on for a bit before I have to shower and get ready to go.
