I feel like I'm hearing an echo...We're both happy with squats lately, and enraged by overhead press. Huh. At least, I get a little enraged sometimes. Good job with squats lately, but I'm going to catch up to you! :P

Well, squats are a happy thing  and overhead can suck it :x You will have plenty of time to catch up when I blow my knees out

6/15/2012
Squat
10xbar
10x95 lbs
5x135 lbs
3x185 lbs
3x5x205 lbs

Pull ups
8,6,5

grip still terrible, but pb still and i'm up to 176.6 lbs (80.3 kg) now 8)

If you don't believe me, ask the old fat guys at my gym.

There is one guy at my gym, retired high school football coach, that thinks it's good to full squat.

Everyone thinks squatting every day is a terrible idea though. How will I recover? Benching and curls 5 days a week is fine though, because those are small muscles, and it's okay, big muscles like legs, you have to be easy with :? :? :? :? :?

Not looking forward to this weekend though. I thought the gym opens at 5am every day, so was going to go down very early tomorrow, but they aren't open till 8 and I have to be on the other side of town by then. And, not sure if I can get back before they close at 2 :( Also, they're closed all day sunday. What kind of gym is closed sundays, when most people have off work?

Rearranged my schedule so I could squat today

Saw a guy that I haven't seen in a while down at the gym, so talked to him for a bit, and he was trying to find out where to get the "supplements" I'm taking  Apparently, it's that unbelievable to him that someone can gain 20 lbs and become moderately weak in a year and a half without PEDs  .

Found out about a new powerlifting/weightlifting gym that should be opening in town before the end of the year, so will have to check that place out. It's going to be a pretty big place apparently, with some lifting platforms and bumper plates and squat racks. The guy is calling it a "weightlifting and fitness club" but, he competes in powerlifting, so probably more oriented towards that. Hopefully it's nice and works out for him, because I'm already excited about it  (must be something wrong with me, excited about a gym??)

6/16/2012
Squat
10xbar
10x95 lbs
5x135 lbs
3x185 lbs
5x210 lbs 5rm PB
5x215 lbs 5rm PB again

Standing Cable Crunches
2x25x120 lbs

just a quick fun session :D

I was trying to find out some more info on that new gym from google and instead I found out a guy from my current gym that I have mentioned in my log before as "sort of strong guy that dropped 400 lbs on his face" competed at IPF worlds in 2010. He got a 722.5 kg total, which was 3rd out of 7 in his age/weight group (masters 2, 110 kg.) I remember him saying something about being 3rd in the world at one point, but didn't really think anything of it. But, 3rd strongest equipped fat old guy that could afford to fly out to Pilsen, Czech Republic is pretty prestigious.

All right, you got 215! Way to go!

Also, I'm happy to hear you may have a better gym to go to before too long. That's good news. Hopefully it works out!

Yeah, would be awesome to at least have nice bars to use instead of these shitty bent ones. And, if I have access to bumpers and lifting platforms I may well turn to olympic style lifting (not just trying to avoid bench press, I promise  )

6/18/2012
Bench
10xbar
2x5x95 lbs
5x115 lbs
1x135 lbs
1x150 lbs
5x135 lbs

was tough, just not strong today

Squat
10xbar
10x95 lbs
5x135 lbs
3x185 lbs
5x5x205 lbs

Pull ups
9PB,7,5

10 was so close that first set, if I had a chin like Jay Leno, I'd have made it. Grip failed on the other sets :x Have no endurance with grip, and no idea how to improve that.

You sound just like me. I'm intrigued by Olympic lifting, but want to wait until I have someone to coach me who knows about that style of lifting. I'd probably love it. And I'll readily admit I'd be happy to avoid bench press. What a pointless lift.

What do you do to work on grip strength right now? I'd highly recommend farmer's walks and plate pinches. They've done wonders for me.

I don't do any direct grip work now. I was doing some at one point, but it was interfering with deadlifts, so I stopped. My grip is getting stronger for sure, just from pull ups, deadlifts, and standing cable crunches(I use a fat rope attachment that is difficult to grip for those) but I have had no improvement in grip endurance it seems. I might start doing some wrist curls, since those have helped in the past, and I think that since its more a forearm thing, it might not destroy the grip so much, but will have to see.

My problem is that my grip gets fatigued, then its pretty well done for the next few days. Was getting to the point of constantly dropping things, even as light as my cell phone, when I was doing the madcow thing with barbell rows twice a week on top of pull ups and deads. I have a history of hand troubles, tendinitis in the wrists and forearms from squeezing and twisting spring loaded clamps 1000+ times a day, so I imagine that didn't help, but not so sure it's related to the current issue since I've never looked into it.

Oh, so I'm assuming your job has something to do with all that gripping. It probably does get exhausted. Oh well, I'm no expert. Deadlifts themselves should help some. Active recovery sounds like a good idea for you. After I do grip work, I try to open my hand against something that won't move, like the reverse motion of gripping something, and hold it for a while. I hope that makes sense. I'm not too scientific about it, but that seems to help me recover so I'm not dropping stuff the next day.

 will check that out later tonight or tomorrow.

Was a previous job with the gripping. I was an injection mold operator for like a year and a half when I was 18 and my hands have been terrible since then.
