Thanks! Looking forward to that.

That's cool Rach, and seeing have well your powerlifting is going you'll probably add some weight to your OL too!

Great Olympic lifting, where did that come from? Those are really good numbers, you not tempted to start training it properly?

You can get coaching in Edinburgh, well you used to be able to, from the guys in the Sports & Conditioning Masters Lab at the pleasance.

That's right, should be able to add 2,5, maybe 5 kg to current PB. :)

Thanks baldy, you really think so? :D I guess having done some powerlifting and hang cleans before helps - snatch is quite
tricky though! I did think it was fun and thought I'd start doing some OL to get variation in my strength training.

Today's session:

Deadlift: Bar x 10. 5 x 5 @ 60, 70, 75, 80, 85 kg. Easy up until 85, will go heavier next time.

Bench press: Bar x 10. 35 kg x 5, 40 kg x 5, 42,5 kg x 5, 45 kg x 4 + F.

Squat: 3 x 5 @ 55, 60, 65 kg.

Overhead press: 3 x 5 @ 20, 2 x 25 kg. Felt ok today, always got neck/traps pain from these in the past.

Bent over row: 3 x 5 @ 25, 30, 35 kg.

Today was so-so, wasn't quite recovered from sunday's squatting and dl for some reason.

Squat: Bar x 8. 55 kg x 5. 60, 65, 70, 75 kg x 1. Was supposed to do 75 x 2 but nearly failed the first rep, instead did 70 x 2, 65 x 3 and
static squat for 2 x 1 min.

Chins: 4, 3, 3, 3.

Seated calf raise: 35 kg x 10, 8, 8.

DB bench, parallell grip: 13,5 kg x 5. 16 kg, 3 x 5. 13, 5 kg x 5.

Neck raise: 20.

Triceps, overhead rope extension: 32 kg x 6. 36 kg x 6 + 5. 32 kg x 6.

I don't know exactly what it is you're learning but it's probably based on the same philosophy! The func moves
group training is typically built around lunges and squatting, with one foot on a step board for instability. Then
press with plate, twists, standing on one leg etc is added to make it more challenging. I like how it engages
core muscles and it feels like my knees and hip joints would become more stable if I did these exercises often enough...

Yoga class today, 60 min ashtanga style.

The PT's at my gym make their clients do all of the above from what I've seen, functional training is really hot right now. :)
Guess it's mostly for logistic reasons they don't use as much equipment in classes of 20-30 people.

A little OL today:

Hang cleans with bar for warmup: 10.

Snatch: Bar x 8. 25 kg x 5. 30 kg x 1, F, 2, F. Well I'm still learning... :)

C & J: 30 kg x 5. 35 kg x 5.

Bent over row, wide grip: 30 kg, 5 x 5.

DB shrugs: 12,5 kg, 3 x 8.

Calf raise with DB, one leg: 12, 5 kg, 3 x 10.

Leg raise on bench: 20.

Neck raise: 20.

I know yeah and i'm definitely considering it but figured i'd wait till the deadlift stalls (well stalls for reasons other than life disruption). Certainly at some point in the next two years though. I asked them actually and apparently it is free with the membership.

So, after following my squat programme for nearly two months, today was PB-attempt day. It went according to plan. :)

Chest press, while queuing for the squat cage. ? x 4 x 5.

Squat: Bar x 5. 50 kg x 3. 72,5 kg x 1. 80 kg x 1 (PB). 82,5 kg x 1 (PB again!). The last one was a true 1RM I think, it took some struggling and loud grunting! Then 60 kg, 2 x 5 and static squats, 60 s, 2 x 30 s between sets of shoulder press.

Shoulder press, behind neck: Bar x 5. 25 kg, 4 x 5. This seems to be working now, always used to give me neck/trap pain. Will take it easy for a while though...

Back extension: 5 kg x 20.

Well done! And it wouldn't be a "true" PB without at least a little grunting :D
