Do avoid training when you have a cold! Please refer to this thread: http://www.veganfitness.net/viewtopic.php?t=12286

reading it is cheaper than seeing a traditional doctor.

When recovered, don't run immediately after eating (wait a couple of hours), and be sure to know that stitches appears less and less often the more fit you get.

Wikipedia has a pretty good article on stitches, how to prevent them and how to cure them when you get them. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Side_stitch

Yes ! agree with hakko.. just do not eat before you run 2-3 hours is ok. if you really feel unconfortable get some peanuts or nuts. excessive drinking can give you stiches as well :(

Cold is pretty much gone, just very slight sore throat sometimes.

week 5 day 3:

walk for 5 minutes (I think I probably only walked for 3 minutes)
then jogged for 20 minutes!!!!!
then walked for 5 minutes

It is probably the first time that I have jogged for 20 continuous minutes since primary school and I'm 29.

I was very doubtful of the couch to 5km running plan, since it is such a big jump from running for 8 minute intervals to running to 20 minutes especially since I found the last day so hard.

Did week 6 day 1 on tue thought it was going to be easy but I think I started out jogging a little quicker so was still really really tired:

Brisk five-minute warmup walk, then:

* Jog 800m
(or 5 minutes)
* Walk 400m
(or 3 minutes)
* Jog 1.2km
(or 8 minutes)
* Walk 400m
(or 3 minutes)
* Jog 800m
(or 5 minutes)

Just did week 6 day 2 today:

Brisk five-minute warmup walk, then:

* Jog 800m
(or 5 minutes)
* Walk 400m
(or 3 minutes)
* Jog 1.2km
(or 8 minutes)
* Walk 400m
(or 3 minutes)
* Jog 800m
(or 5 minutes)

I jogged around a track which is supposed to be about 3.2 km and almost made it completely around -maybe around 3km or even 3.1km so probably jogging a little too slowly. I also found this hard despite the 3min break but I think that's because I ran on an empty stomach (apart from some vanilla soy milk) and then felt really sick afterward. The next run is going to be 25 continuous run, fingers crossed I can made it !

I'm only a month away now from the 4km race that I'm entering.

Did week6 day 3 yesterday:

5min walk
then jogged for 25 minutes :-)

It is supposed to be for 3.6km and I know that I went over 3.2 but not sure if I hit the 3.6 mark, really need to get a pedometer .

I was super proud of myself because next week I should be jogging for 4km which is how long the race is in May but I've hurt my knee, might post about that on the runner thread.

After a week off due to problems with my left knee I decided to try jogging again yesterday and lasted 11 minutes then gave up.

Tried again today and did 25 minutes. And this time my right knee started hurt like crazy right afterwards but I iced it and the pain has gone. I got myself a pedometer but it only tells me steps not kms, but I'm pretty sure that I'm not hitting 4km.

did a trial run today where the race is (in 2 weeks), and found the small hills difficult. Took me about 28 minutes to run 3.8km. I actually thought it was 4km so was kind of disappointed. I'm hoping it will take me 25 min to run 4km on the day but might be a little difficult since I am needing to take 5 days off in between each practice because of my silly knees.

Thinking about moving this training log to http://www.dailymile.com/people/mangomagic rather than keep boring you with my runs.

Don't do that. We need as many people posting here as possible.

Have you broken in your vibram's yet? I'm thinking of getting some, just for their stylishness though :)

Hey K!

Are you still doing the C25K? I started and got all the way to the end of Week 6 but stopped at week 7 and started P90X. I'd like to get back into it, there's not enough cardio for me in P90X.

Just wanted to say a big well done and good luck!!

It is *so* satisfying to suddenly be able to run 2 then 5 then 10 minutes, etc, when you couldn't before. Sounds like you've got a good plan!

So after a year of being sick (nothing major just horrible immune system) i'm finally back and almost exactly where I was a year ago. Again I'm going to try to do the 4k mothers day run in 2 weeks which I couldn't do it last year, so determined to do it this year.

I did Couch to 5km week 7 day 1 today: 25 minutes-3.8k.

I ran the tan running track, well just under. Sportypal said it was 3.8 but I suspect it was more like 3.7k since I didn't completely finish. I couldn't run up the steep hill though, I got about 3/4 way up and then walked for a minute or so. Determined to go back in 2 days and try again without stopping. Any tips for conquering hills? I'm used to running on flat tracks.

Agreed. And we're short of running logs.

Well done on the training, keep going.

After that last log I had major shin splints so stopped until the race today.

I did my first fun run today, 4km and finally conquered the dreaded hill. It took 26 minutes and 5 seconds.

I know it's not super impressive but I was really pleased with it. It's a significant race because my grandmother died of breast cancer and so my family do 4k walk every year on mothers day to honour her since the race raises money for breast cancer which probably isn't very vegan of me but it's a long tradition and means a lot to me. We all walk with a tribute card on our backs honouring her. It's so inspiring reading all of the the tribute cards and I swear that it helped me to get up the hill thinking about the poor women and men who have had breast cancer. So after the run I did the 4k walk with my family.

And I'm hoping that it's the first of many races too!

My calves are killing me though, i'ive stretched them many times but it doesn't seem to help. I'm guessing it's from the hill or my five fingers.

solid effort. Did Toby make you a recovery shake?
