4.4.11

Sets Across:

Squat: 5/5/4 @ 120
Bench: 5/4/4 @ 100
Deadlift: 1x5 @ 135 (300 lbs)

Puked a not insignificant amount of my lunch into my mouth during the set up for the 3rd deadlift rep. Couldn't spit it so back down it went. It's just proof of how my body handles even minimal amounts of weekend debauchery nowadays.

Looking back on what I used to do even 5 years ago, what 6 beers does to me now is astonishing

Yeah drinking is all about practise, when I am in party mode my body and my body is conditioned to drinking , it can do amazing things with alcohol.
If I haven't drunk anything for weeks and then have a couple of pints, the next day will be horrible hangover.

Yeah man, I guess I didn't realize how long ago college was because I used to REGULARLY house multiple 24 packs on a given weekend with my roomate... plus whatever I'd have once we went out. Honestly I don't know what the hell I was thinking. Those were prime lifting years!

Now I have nights of 4+ drinks maybe 3, 4 times a year... I'll remember to plan them around my deadlifting schedule from now on.

Im retitling this log as now that the deadlift is starting to pick up, and since I'm a quarter-way thorugh the year injury free, I took a monster drag off the crack pipe last night and now want to add an end of the year goal for DL, bench and total.

My 405 (182kg) squat and 225 (102) press goals are still going, but I'm gonna add 315 (143) bench and 455 (207) deadlift by the end of the year. Those goals would give me 1175 but *hits crackpipe again* I think I can manage another 25 pounds probably split between the bench and deadlift.

So 1200 (545) total it is

that's a damn impressive goal you have Kevin. do it man. you're on the surge. that's awesome.

now for you young bastards complaining about being too old & not being able to handle the suds, i say "c'mon now!! do i need to come and show you how to drink?" it's perhaps the only thing i do know how to do well. 8)

although my days of drinkin a 12 pack are long gone. usually if I drink 4 beers, i'm ready for bourbon, whiskey, or tequila.

haha hal  Maybe with a full stomach I can hang, but without that I got nothin' these days. Maybe if I move to DC (which is possible) we can grab a few and see who's left standing

Baldy, are you bringing the pipe with you to the comp? 2 safe lifts and heroics for the 3rd?

4.6.11

Sets Across:

Squat: 4/3/2 @ 125
OHP: 3x5 @ 65
Chins: 5.0.0

Squatted without a mirror for the first time. My work sets were an absolute disaster as a result. Safe to say I won't be squatting with a mirror again any time soon.

I was honestly shocked at how pathetic my work sets were--there was almost no communication between any parts of my body. Gonna video a lot for the next few weeks.

Baldy's just getting nervous. we're all about the same height, but you're 111kg and making huge leaps.

so the mirror thing is interesting. I don;t have a mirror so I'm not sure I get it. maybe you're psyching yourself out.

and if you move to DC, we'll definitely have to meet up.

 So long as he has that deadlift, it'll be a looong while before he sees me in his rear view.

...

maybe somewhere around December when I total 1200

4.8.11

Sets Across:

Squat: 3/3/5 @ 125
Bench: 5/4/? @ 102.5 <--previous 1RM
Deadlift: 1x5 @ 137.5

Last squat set felt really good. I think I might go up to 127.5 for Monday. Something tells me you get the hang of squatting without a mirror rather quickly.

Last bench set I put up 4 reps and failed on the 5th but I put "?" because my spotter had his hands all over every rep. Seriusly there should be an introductory course on spotting whenever someone signs up at a gym :? .

Video to follow.

BEHOLD THE POWER BELLY!

I think the scientific term here is "benchers arms" Good god my arms are short--that's like a 6 inch ROM for the bench. I knew they weren't proportionally as long as they should be and my bench form is good--hitting the chest touch and go, not bouncing, but clearly touching--but man seeing that bench vid is an eye-opener. I also see almost no leg drive at all.

i was gonna say that your form is all wrong, but then i didn't even know there was such a thing as sumo-style. looked it up. pretty cool. Kevin, it doesn't even look like you're breaking a sweat on those. great job all around.

Thanks hal--I never thought it'd happen by my deadlift feels fantastic. Months of tinkering I guess. Looking forward to smashing 315 for 5 next week.

4.11.11

Sets Across:

Squat: 5/4/4 @ 125
Press: 5/5/4 @ 65
Chins (Green): 3x5

Squat was shite--I've been at this weight too long. All my other lifts are finding a groove and so I can just focus on beasting when it comes time. When I'm squatting all i can fscking think about is how good/not good my form is and it usually results in a shitty set. Solution: LESS THINKING MOAR BEASTING.

Press was solid, 67.5 Friday.

Hit 3x5 w/Green band so Purple (22.5kg) Friday.
