Mar. 18:

10 rounds:
5 DB deadlifts
5 DB hang cleans
5 DB push press
5 DB squats

Time: 14:35 (used 20 lb DBs, probably could go up next time to 25's)

Tomorrow might be the day I have to say good bye to my cat. When I work out is the only time I can get my mind off of it.

Mar. 19:

My cat is gone. I feel like a piece of my soul is missing. The apartment is so empty and quiet, it's heart-breaking. I went to do a quick treadmill workout to try and get my mind off of things, it didn't work too well. At least there weren't many others in the apartment gym so I didn't freak out too many people my crying intermittently.

5 min. warm-up jog
10 rounds of 60sec sprint/60 sec jog
5 min. cool down

I'll probably go for a walk later. I've been working from home for the past 6 months and it's just so painful to be here without him.

In the end though, the procedure was so painless and quick. And he finally looked peaceful, something he hadn't looked in awhile.

Thanks Kallefs, that's really sweet of you.

Mar. 20:

It was hard getting out of bed this morning. For the first time in many years I didn't have my buddy meowing at me for breakfast. I couldn't stand being in the quiet apartment so I went to the gym. When I have an intense workout I'm able to focus on something else for a short while.

3 rounds for time:
10 jump lunge side kick
10 supergirl push-up
2 min. jump rope
10/10 love bends (15# DB)
Time: 16:03

6 rounds for time:
10 forward backward squat jump
10 dragon lunge backs (15# DB)
10 toe touch jump ups
10/10 side plank leg lift
Time: 16:47

I was going to do a third workout, but I realize I'm getting into dangerous territory of over-exercising and under-eating. Since my cat first fell ill two weeks ago, I've lost over 10 pounds without really trying. I'm just working out a lot to clear my mind and I don't have an appetite.

I know it will get better with time. And I know it was the right choice to make. It's just going to take awhile to heal.

Sorry about your cat Lobsteriffic. It's never easy and there's a bit of you that goes when we lose our animals. At least he had a good home with you.

Keep training and keep eating.

Thank you. It really means a lot to me how understanding everyone has been.

A card arrived from the vet clinic today. It made me fall to pieces, but it was really nice of them all the same.

very sorry to hear about your cat :( Incidentally, junk food can be a useful temporary shortcut to calories at times like this when one might not feel like eating.

Thanks Muppet. You are right. Normally I can't keep peanut butter in the house because I'll devour it all with a spoon. Last night my husband offered to go and get me a jar just so I'd have the calories and I actually turned it down. I don't think I've ever turned down peanut butter before.

I know I'll come around eventually. So far my workouts aren't noticeably suffering. I'm going to try and work in a few smoothies throughout the day today.

I wish I had remembered to press the lap button at the half way mark. This was a pretty big negative split. I started to slow down but then I remembered a line from a running workshop I went to a year or so ago. The facilitator said that you should finish your run with better posture than you started with. Don't slump over when you get tired. Once I fixed my posture I magically sped up, despite being tired. I think that's the most valuable piece of running advice I've heard to date.

Mar. 22:

Took a rest day today since I haven't had one in over 2 weeks. I haven't felt like I needed one, really. But today I woke up with achy legs and decided to just take it easy.

Mar 23:
5 miles in 45:36...ended with an all-out sprint.

I certainly didn't mean for this to turn into a tempo run...just went out and felt like running fast. Kind of flabbergasted at my time. That's a 9:08/mile pace, which is pretty fast for me. Last month I ran 3 miles at an 8:59/mile pace which I though was speedy.

I'm getting faster, so I must be doing something right.

Mar. 27:

AMRAP - 10 minutes:
10 pulse plyo jumps
8 side burpees
6 jump legkicks

Score: 5.5 (last time I did this, it was 4.75, yay!)

Mar. 28:

10 miles in 1:40:11

During the run I thought I went out too fast, but I was pleasantly surprised when I looked at my mile splits:

Pretty much right where they should be.

I think my running shoes are starting to get worn out. This model has since been discontinued, so I need to do some online sleuthing.
