New theme

Postby baldy » Sat Nov 10, 2012 2:50 pm

We have updated the software on the server and changed the default theme.
This was not done lightly and took a lot of work to tie all parts of the site together. The old theme is no longer supported, so was essential to change it.

I know this is a big change, please give it some time before going off on a rant about how rubbish the new theme is and how much you prefer the old one.

I promise I won't rant, but the buttons "POST REPLY", "EDIT" and "QUOTE" looks like they're taken straight out of a 90ies web page, text images with low resolution and no anti-aliasing. Any reason they have to be images and not text rendered by the web browser?

Damn it! You beat me to it....

The header is still pretty darn cool, wonder what it would cost to get that printed on something that could last a bit.....

Yeah I think there is an aliasing issue with the images, will look into it.

I really like the header as well

I actually enjoyed the 90's, not sure why everyone uses it as something derogatory. If you shift refresh, I think I have solved the anti aliasing issue.

All looks slick. Will take some getting used to, but I think I like the new direction.

Am I thick, or where did the search-function go? I can't find it ...

search.php <- still works, but there is not link from the Board index. On each forum section there is a search this forum.
Will see what we can do to get the search box back in the header. Any CSS gurus want to help with this?

The button backgrounds also have a dotted red line at the top of them, which should be easy to fix.

since we are already tinkering with search is there anyway we can improve the results? I get far better search results going out to google and typing site:www.veganfitness.net 'my search term' than i ever did using old site's search function.

Perhaps we could do the lazy thing and have our whole site search function go straight to google like t-nation does it http://www.t-nation.com?

edited to note that when you do this you get results within the website too!

I'm sure I'll get used to the changes.
My only complaint is that the text of a message doesn't really stand out from everything else, which makes it a bit hard to skim through a thread reading the important bits while avoiding reading the same signatures over and over again.
Are there different colour schemes available where just the name and message show up better ?

I use the search a fair amount and never had any major issues with it, can you give an example of things it does not find?
Google will always be better for some kinds of searches specially if you use fuzzy logic or bad spelling.
