Need a reference David.

I think we should have a vote of who should be added to the list.

Peter Brock is not a vegan, unfortunately. He still eats eggs.

hi you all,

as i see this thread here as the most complete and serious listing of vegan athletes i wont to contribute some:
you all know that i am a very dedicated and skilled skater,... :?
ok, i admit im making fun,...

but i got to know a vegan skater and he passed me on there infos:
it seems that there are at least 4 vegan pro skaters

Ed Templeton - Pro Skater,Artist, Owner of Toy Machine(sehr bekannte
SkateboardMarke),AR guy, popular vegans skate shoes...
/ Vegan since 1991 / USA
http://www.peta2.de/spotlight/p171/ed_t ... light.html

Link geoff rowley interview: - Pro Skater, vegan shoes at vans
VANS (Veganer) / England/USA
http://www.skateboarding.com/skate/stor ... 97,00.html
he says he is vegan, buys no animal products, but isnt vegan police and sometimes he isnt completly strict

Bio of Arto Saari : - Pro Skater, Vegan / Finnland/USA
http://www.etniesskate.com/team/arto-saari/
4th pert of the text

Interview with Moses Itkonen
http://www.skateboarding.com/skate/stor ... 82,00.html
my favourite: before he got vegan, he worked at a fastfood chain, and get dropped of cos he stole hamburgers!!!!!!

perhaps someone wants to add them!

:-)

ah of course! Sorry Arto and Moses for forgetting them! Thanks Kadett8 8)

trouble is, the main man J has left the board and unfortunately is not coming back any time soon, so someone should take over the maintenance of this thread. I liked J's ever sceptical approach, he wanted this list to be the most reliable and evidenced list of vegan athletes and i'd like to see that attitude to continue.

There's no question about Ed - he and his wife order from us occasionally, and he's been an outspoken vegan for as long as I can remember hearing his name (since at least 1991 or so).

I was disappointed when I heard that eventually skater Mike Vallely decided not to stay vegan - he was the first person who was putting pro-animal messages on his graphics back in the early 90s, and definitely pushed an anti-meat stance pretty hard. A shame when someone who used to really get the message out decides not to keep on the path...

I'll update here soon.

Here's an article about Roy Hilligenn: http://www.aafla.org/SportsLibrary/IGH/ ... 0hilligenn
It has his address at the end so I'm going to try to find out his diet. He's in jail unfortunately.... I doubt they cater to vegan diets in jail.

Most prisons in most western countries can provide for vegans, and there are groups who can help with getting it sorted :D

When you do update, can you add this dude in as well:

Looks like he's out of jail but missed a meeting with his parole officer. Oh well.

hi J,

:D

Today i read an article about a new "on the list should be":

Andreas Hänni (27), NLA-Icehockeyplayer
icehockey pro from Schwitzerland

Source: Vegi-Info Nr. 40,
Schweizerische Vereinigung für Vegetarismus (SVV)
http://www.vegetarismus.ch
there is an printed interview with hänni in the newspaper. and the President of the SVV confirmed it per mail:

i like this list, it s growing all the time.
:D
-------------
Hallo frank,
ich seh das Problem nicht.
Er lebt vegan. Im Einlietungstext wurde es deutlich geschrieben und ein
ganzer Abschnitt befasst sich damit, weshalb er keine Milch konsumiert.
http://www.vegetarismus.ch/heft/2006-1/ ... haenni.htm

Wann hast du die Folder an meine A-Adresse geschickt? Weißt du wann sie
ankommen sollten?
Ich bin mit den Adressen nun fertig.

Gruss
Renato

i should have posted this earlier, here is one to add.

name: Mac Danzig
sport: Mixed Martial Arts (MMA)

accomplishments: current lightweight (155 lbs) division champion for the King of the Cage and Gladiator Challenge mixed martial arts organizations

links: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mac_Danzig

proof: http://www.groundandpound.de/interviews ... ig_en.html

(from link):
GnP: I read on Wikipedia that you are a vegan. If that is true, how do you make sure your nutrition is balanced and containing enough energy?

MD: Yes, my diet is pretty much full vegan. I have no problem with energy. One thing that helps is that there are now
a lot of supplements out there for vegan athletes that weren't available just 5 or 6 years ago. I stay away from soy
protein as a supplement and instead use rice protein, which contains all of the amino acids nessesary for recovery.
I eat alot of brown rice, vegetables, oatmeal and tofu. I feel great with my diet and I wouldn't be able to cut to 155 comfortably without it
