I feel like another option is to take the middle ground, and go with an organic feed. Our kitty uses Organix Cat Food (
http://www.castorpolluxpet.com/product/organix-adult-cat-food). I have considered mixing her food with a vegan cat food, but all of the vegan food products seem quite processed. I wish there was a better option out there, but I feel that we know too little about cat metabolism and nutrition for a vegan food to be as healthy for them as a meat-based product. It's easy as humans, since our protein needs are so much lower, but cats have a much higher protein need, and it is hard to satisfy that with vegan foods without resorting to processing and extracting. Ideally we could stuff them full of high protein vegan foods (peas, soybeans, etc.) and then make up the rest of their protein intake with actual meat from the butcher, but that is unrealistic and too costly. If I was living alone, I simply wouldn't have a cat, but my girlfriend really wanted one and so now we must compromise. Such is life!
