Vegan Soc Members, vote against animal citatation motion

Postby mabli » Thu Nov 15, 2012 3:03 pm

Atn All Vegan Society full members!!

There's a motion to allow citation of animal experiments, please vote against this motion at the AGM, if you cannot get there in person please send in your proxy form signed and include your membership number or your vote will be disqualified, your form will be with this issue of the magazine. Please act now, there's not much time.

Animal experiments are wrong in any format and the society should continue with its present rules...

I've read the motion and I think the Vegan Society Council have missed the point by objecting to it.
To briefly paraphrase the motion, "The Vegan Society should be able to quote animal experiments for any reason consistent with its purpose".

So, as an example, to say "Aspirin causes birth defects in mice and rats, but not humans. Therefore, mice and rats should not be used to test drugs for humans" is to cite animal research, while also promoting the Vegan Society's purpose. What's wrong with that ?
