Vegan Fitness Week Europe 2011- Location

Postby Giulia » Sun Aug 29, 2010 8:22 pm

hi everyone!

I loved the Vegan Fitness Week 2011 in Germany and decided immediatly that I'd love to organize next years VFW in Austria- of course, if everybody is ok with this. Felix and Liat already joined and would help me with the organization.

Felix and me checked the hosting possibilities already.

We could offer you:

Pros:
-Location Wiener Neustadt (50km from Vienna) in the center of Europe, easy to reach by highway or train
-We could rent the club home of a local sports club there
-The exact price can't be told yet, but it will be like this year's
-There will be rooms, where we can sleep(though no beds, we will camp), meet and there's also a kitchen, where we can cook by ourselves
-People who like or if there are to many people attending, can camp on the lawn which belongs to the club home.
-The club home comes with a big soccer field, a 100m sprint track, showers and toilets
-about 15 min. walk from the club home there are two gyms, which can be used for gymnastics (full gymnastics equipment available), volleyball, basketball, soccer, crossfit, breakdancing, kettlebell-training, etc. next to the gyms there's also a sprint track and a soccer field, which we can use for track and field (longjump, shotput, etc.)
-about 2-3km walk (or a few minutes in car) there is a quarry pond for swimming etc
-indoor and outdoor-swimmingpools in Wr. Neustadt (indoor pool with sauna)
-Thermal Pool about 15km from Wr. Neustadt (http://www.linsbergasia.at/de)
-Rocks and Mountains for Climbing, Hiking and Mountainbiking are about 15km from Wr. Neustadt (http://www.naturpark-hohewand.at/)
-30km from Wr. Neustadt is the most eastern 2000m mountin of the Alps, the so called "Schneeberg" for hiking, climbing, mountainbiking, etc.

And another symbolic aspect of holding the VFW in Wr. Neustadt is the fact that Wr. Neustadt is the city where the court case against 13 austrian animal rights activists is held since march 2010. I think, it's a great sign of resistance to hold the Vegan Fitness Week there to show that activists can't be intimidated by unfair legal actions like this case which criminalizes animal rights activism.

Cons:
-Neither Felix and me, nor the gym has a weightlifting equipment, so thats the only thing we don't have so far, but I'll try to organize this as well
-There are no beds in the club home, so everybody has to bring their matrasses and sleeping bags or blankets

So let's see, what Francesco comes up with and than we can start a voting about the location....

Hey it seems great! The big question is of course: How far is it from Shillingers?
this is Sparta

actually Schillinger is about 100km distance from Wr. Neustadt, but I assume to get a great catering, so we won't have to eat outside ;-)

Sounds very promising, and everything sounds very accessible which is great. I would personally prefer a place with at least beds for those of us not used to sleeping on a camping mat for a week ;) I'm probably in the minority though! Are there any potential alternatives in the vicinity?

There is a youth hostel as well, but it's not suitable to host us all... or you bring an air matrass?

Next weekend I will go there and take pictures, so everybody gets an idea about the location...

Is it possible to have a July VFW next year? I have missed the two last VFW:s due to them colliding with my race schedule, July is much better.

Austria sounds like an excellent idea, and so does Italy. If work and racing permits I'd go to whatever is arranged 8)

Sounds like a perfect place! If I could choose, late July or early August would be best.

I'd prefer July too, does anyone else have competitive season dates that always clash with July or August?

If it's in July, I might be able to come over for this.

I am always keen for a vegan meetup, I have no idea what I will be doing next year let alone next June. Put me on the list though.

I am up for either location. Pretty much any time is fine too as I can work around whatever is organised.
