E coli... thoughts needed? Gelert... ?

Postby Catt Queen » Mon Jan 17, 2011 8:06 pm

OK so... Jasper cat has had diarrhoea for months, vet cannot find a cause despite numerous tests...

Chunky puppy likes to eat cat poo...

Chunky puppy also likes to suckle on Zeus's penis...

Zeus got really sick with a bladder problem which has today been confirmed as E coli...

E coli causes diarrhoea in cats...

Hmmm... could I be on to something here... ? I will be speaking to the vet tomorrow!

You could well be.

Could be coincidental as well. I presume dogs carry E. coli.

Either way, bad strains of E. coli can be bad news for people and animals so best to be cautious in handling faecal materials and such.

I'll speak to the vets tomorrow and find out if Jasper was tested for E coli and go from there...

E.coli, coccidiosis, campilobacter, salmonella, coronavirus all usually tested for, but check with your vets, as there are different priced tests.
It is possible to send off a poo sample that does not grow a culture, but the animal still has it. Thats why they often ask for a sample from a few differents poos in one pot.
