The problem I have with it : She spend an hour transporting her bike over a paved road to go and ride it on another paved road for 15 miles !

I bike commute about 45km every day to work over paris roubaix type roads and try to save energy as much as possible so stuff like this and also treadmills make me mad.

So you're attacking some random person because you're comfortable riding on busy roads but they are not?

People load their kit in to a car and drive to somewhere they can go kayaking, rock climbing, surfing or caving all the time.
What's wrong with someone doing the same for cycling if they haven't got the sort of routes they like to ride right outside their door ?

The point I was trying to make or the discussion I wanted to start is not about the blog post or the person in question. I just was an example of it.

It's more about how fossil fuel is being wasted on unnecessary things and how much pollution is your "health" or "enjoyment" worth.

Hahaha true. But crapiecorn does have a point that many people seem to have a knack for creating greenhouse gases while they exercise. I personally can't justify driving my bike somewhere, but to each their own!

I sometimes drive to walk my dogs somewhere nice that can't be easily got to on foot...

I often drive a long way to go biking or freediving. I do feel guilty about all the fuel but what am I gonna do, stay home and play playstation games all day and get fat?

I try to lift share when possible etc. but have to admit I do put in some miles.

Currently there is no where to freedive in Leicester and no hills to go Downhilling on. We have allowed society to get dependent on cars and not got good public transport or much in the way of facilities near home.


Edit: I nearly forgot to answer the question. What is wrong with people?
Answer: Like any other animal we are fundementally driven by our own selfish desires. Our only real purpose in life is to pass on our genes at the expense of others if need be. Yeah I don't like it much either.

Same here. I try to combine my aim to reduce car useage with a desire to exercise more by walking, cycling or running places where I could have driven. On Saturday I drove to the woods (8 miles each way) to run 13 as otherwise I would have been faced withs hills.

I sneer at people who drive to the gym so they can use a treadmill but I'm not totally clean. We're all balancing selfishness and ideals.
