Later on I heard the moose was very grateful to the rescue team and told them all 'you're me best mates' before throwing up, going for a curry and having sex with a stranger on top of some bins in an alleyway.

It's interesting how much trouble people go through to rescue moose when
they fall into a swimming pool or get trapped in a tree. It happens every year
in Sweden and the papers write humorous and heart-warming stories about it.
Then in the fall, the hunters go out and kill around 100 000 of them.
(actually, even if a moose steps into a pool during hunting-season it will get
rescued and released into the forest where people apparently feel better about shooting it)
-Talk is cheap-

Same thing happens in the U.S.. There are periodic stories about cows or pigs escaping escaping a slaughter house. People cheer the animal on and are happy if someone makes room for it at a sanctuary.

I'm sure some of those people go have some meat or even beef afterwards.

I'm also sure it makes some people think about where their meals come from and I think any positive consideration of animals, no matter how inconsistent, is better than none. The situation for all animals would be even worse if people did not love cats and dogs. So, I don't think this kind of inconsistent myopia is the worst thing.
