RSPCA in Private Eye

Postby Big Good Wolf » Tue Jan 29, 2013 10:19 am

I think I've posted stuff from Private Eye here before.
This is a recent article on the RSPCA.

Normally, I wouldn't be bothered about any copyrighting issues with posting pictures taken from a newspaper, but Private Eye are the good guys of journalism, so I think I ought to follow this with a recommendation to subscribe.
I'll try to remember to post any future stories they do on animal rights. They cover a lot of government and business stuff as well though, so it's well worth buying to read the whole magazine.

This is the epetition referenced.

RSPCA have been getting a kicking in mainstream media recently for becoming a 'militant animal rights' organisation. I agree that the RSPCA is load of sh*te albeit for very different reasons - rather than spend so many millions prosecuting a very small number of hunters & pet owners, why not take that cash & use it to promote meat-free/animal-free diets?
Meat is still murder, dairy is still rape.

The government and the police aren't doing much to prosecute anyone for hunting, so I think its good that the RSPCA are. It's pointless having a "hunting ban" if people are ignoring it.
Yes, the RSPCA are spending a lot of money on it, but legal action is usually rather expensive. And its not all that much in terms of their total income.

I think much of the media criticism is from pro-hunting newspapers (or pro-Tory newspapers).
