Favourite yoga poses/sequences

Postby fraser » Sat Dec 06, 2008 12:50 pm

What is your favourite pose and why? Least favourite?

I love doing trikonasana/triangle pose, that lower back stretch is just great, but i really don't enjoy revolved triangle(only know the english for that one). Probably cos i find it so much more awkward.

I also love the sun salute, especially when i get the breathing and movement in a continuous flow.

I've left out loads of things that i can't do at all, like lotus.

Anyone else got favourites?

I love arm balances like Crane Pose http://www.yogajournal.com/poses/468 most but I'm not that great at them. I just find them liberating, it's quite a hard feeling to verbalise! Hip openers are a joy as well.

I don't enjoy back bends, especially the Bow, I'm just terribly inflexible and it's always unsatisfying and uncomfortable. I do like this back bend though http://www.yogajournal.com/poses/863

I think the sun salutation is a great sequence. I do them every day when I wake up. It's a chore but after a couple my body thanks me.

I like doing dynamic splits in headstand.

I love to do the Ardha Chandrasana (Back bend compression of spine) see:
http://www.bikram-yoga-noosa-australia. ... rasana.htm
Especially after running

But every morning I start with the sun salute. To make my body awake, and feel the blood going trough my whole body.

Basic sun salutation in the mornings.. but my favourite single position is a basic shoulder stand for total relaxation

The corpse pose for me too Emm.

Otherwise I love the spinal twists, especially the supine ones where body weight does all the work.

All the forward bends are difficult (cyclists legs!). The sun salutation isn't fun for me!

I love love love Dhanurasana and Ustrasana! They make me want to die, but they feel so amazing! Like my spine is curling up like a pearl necklace; it is wonderful.

I hate locust pose. Not only does it make me want to die, but it makes me want to kill someone else too! Of course, it's always the postures we hate most that we need to focus on.

I've had an on-off relationship with yoga for the last 10 or so years, I really should do it more often to clear my head.

I enjoy half headstand - I feel more stable and straight-backed than when wobbling in full headstand.

Also butterfly pose - opening and stretching my hips and groin feels lovely.

But forward bends (seated) are my favourite in general, the gentle stretch to the whole of the back of the body is fab :)

keepin it simple, child's pose

it's a great stretch that hits most of the muscles that are used for surfing

Love lunges, HATE core. So I deliberately request core in my yoga classes so I can work on it. :D
