swimming as cross training for running

Postby andyO » Wed Jan 25, 2006 2:33 pm

For the last few months I've been adding a couple of swimming sessions in my weekly running schedule as cross training (handy during the dark nights).

Now then being a silly anal fellow :) I like to keep a log of my running training and since these swimming sessions look to be here to stay thought I'd add them in to avoid overtraining (or help me reach my weekly training target more likely :D ). Anyone have a view on how many running miles a swimming mile equates to?

Thanks!

not sure on this, but a swimmer friend once told me that swimming a 100 meters is similar in difficulty to running 400. so, maybe you could just multiply by 4.

Think there are lots off other factors...

is the floor you run on flat?

what is the weather like?

how intensive do you run / swim...?

how good are your running / swimming scills...?

etc etc....
