Workout plan

Postby Mandie » Fri Feb 03, 2006 1:27 am

Could anyone maybe tell me if this is a good workout plan for me if I weight about 145 right now and am trying to get down to about 118?

20 minutes - running on treadmill (about 2.7 speed)
20 minites - walking while doing arm exercise (moving arms forward and backward) which is attached to the treadmill (about 2.5 speed)
50 crunches
30 push-ups

I usually get pretty tired after running but I can get through the workout. I want to try and get enough energy to get through the workout without being as tired and could need some advice. I kind of want to lose this amount of weight before my school year is over which I think is in May.

If your having trouble with the energy levels while training, you might well be eating too litlle. What do you eat normally? There's not much point on minimizing the calories, you just want to eat slightly below your maintainance level. About 500kcal below a day is usually said to be optimal, which would make you loose one pound a week.
Also you havent posted how often you train?
As for the training, adding more strength stuff would definitely be beneficial, as it will help you keep your muscle while losing fat. Do you train at a gym?

They oftenget confused by the fact that they are almost half protein themselves.

I don't train at a gym and I try and do the workout I posted mostly everyday. I usually eat 2 servings of fruit and a Natural Ovens Bakery whole wheat bagel with jam in the morning with orange juice. During lunch is usually a sandwich with veggie meat slices, veggie cheese and ketchup on a whole wheat Natural Ovens Bakery bun or if I get lunch at my school, I would have a small bowl of macaroni and cheese, breadstick, and a Nutri-grain bar with water. And for dinner I'll usually have 2 servings of vegetables with couscous or something else with water.

Ah, ok. Im not sure it's usefull to do the strength stuff (press ups and crunches) everyday, maybe it would be more beneficial to do ti every other day or so to give the muscles some time for recovery. Also you could surf around a little for other strength exercises that can be done without equipment, Im not expert on this but things like hindu squats migth be usefull.

I think your eating too little, even if your trying to lose weight. And you should definitely eat more often, try to eat 5-6 times a day. This will help keep yuour bloodsugar as well as your insulin levels stable which should be beneficial for weight loss I think. And I also think it might be worth for you to try to get a little more protein into your diet, getting enough protein is especialy important when losing weight in order to maintain muscle mass.
