Getting ready to ski

Postby Toolio » Mon Dec 31, 2012 7:43 am

So its snowtime here in Canada,
anyone got any advice on prepping to ski ie; building up strength in legs.

Also before I get flamed about the environmental impact of skiing, I'm talking about my local ski hill up and downer on the edge of my city, not pristsine wildernness heli-ski or anything
cheers

man, cant wait for there to be enough snow again in berlin (there was! and it all went away in this heat spell), because i bought one of these badboys (well not the same model, but you get the idea):

i think just go for it, legs will catch up after couple sore days :D

but if anything, hit the stairmaster or something like that at the gym, on a bit heavier setting :)

Narrow-stance squats too - there's a reason they're called "ski squats"!

Also make sure whatever you're doing you're working higher reps and lower resistance.

Might be worth doing some mid- and upper-back exercises too like seated cable rows, whenever I've gone skiing people have been shocked at how sore their arms and back are after a few days, totally underestimating how much you use the poles. Rotational torso stuff would be handy too to assist with strength and stability in parallel turns.

So basically just get stronger everywhere
