cardio and weights workout questions!

Postby purple_mog » Thu Oct 29, 2009 11:06 am

So I'm starting back at the gym tomorrow night since its too dark out to do much in the evenings, can only go once a week in my schedule and want to make the most of it.

I want to:
- use the treadmill to do some speedwork intervals
- use the row machine
- do some basic machine weights to work on core strength (I've got a list of the ones I need to target)

From what I'm reading, I shouldn't run AFTER weights, but will it be okay to do the run first and then weights after? Or should I be doing those on separate workouts??

huuuuuuge question!

I am working to
-maintain current level of fitness (sprint distance triathlon and 10k run achieved so far)
-increase my core strength and muscle generally to help with the triathlon
-introduce some speed workouts so I can run at more than one fixed pace!
-building toward an off-road half marathon at the end of January!

Oh - and loosing weight would be a REALLY nice bonus but its not my main focus...

Think you can do both run before or afterwards.

Depends how far you want to go with your weight training. If you make yourself to tired in one (running weights) it's hard to focus on the technics of the other workout.

I would always include cardio in your workout as triathlete unless you do more than 6 trainings a week.

good luck
