Stretching unnecessary?

Postby Linnéa76 » Wed Apr 15, 2009 2:31 pm

I just read an article in a Swedish health monthly saying that according to the latest research stretching is basically an absolut waste of time, in most cases. The exceptions were martial arts; then you could stretch before, and yoga; for which stretching before and after was recommended (!). Sounds ridiculous to me! Personally, I get a lot more soreness after weight exercise if I forget stretching, so I won't stop doing it just because there's no "evidence" for it.

I stretch 2x5 mins every day, usually upon getting up and after training. Those ten minutes every day mean a world of a difference to me. STRETCHING FTW!!!
Next time, I'll spend the money on drugs instead.

I rarely ever stretch, it's quite boring and I have never noticed any difference in sport specific strength or ability when I do. The "truth" that everyone need to stretch after exercise is an old myth that modern sport science has refuted some time ago.
