High vs. Low reps

so this translates into a 5X5 routine, right? I've been doing a lot more sets because I'm trying to determine my strength/weight level. hopefully I'll be able to bring it down to 5X5 starting tomorrow.

I stumbled upon this video tonight and I really want to be like these girls. I think I'd definitely need a trainer to work with me though. I haven't seen anyone do these at the gym: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rOJdtaH1 ... r_embedded

5x5 is good, 4x6 is okay and save time, 8x3 allow you to do it much heavier.

I go the chad waterbury's way, do 25reps in total and do as many sets as i need.

3 things is enuff for a workout. 1 push(bench press, overhead press), 1 pull (row, pull up) and dead or squat is great. Have a look at Mike Mahler's Reg Park 5x5 routine

That is the snatch, check out the Olympic Lifts table to see who here trains in Olympic lifts. You could teach yourself how to do it, if you read up a bit on the internet then get pointers from people. Making videos of yourself training is also useful and people will give you comment on your form. Time to truly unleash your beast?

Where in NJ are you? There are quite a few clubs in NJ where you could get some coaching.

the closest one would be in New Brunswick (I live in the Central/Shore area). I'll see if I can get a video or two up in the next couple of weeks.

While certain rep ranges are considered to have certain effects in general. I don't believe it is always the case. Every individual has their own ratio of fast and slow twitch fibers. Also over time with specialized training the ratio can change. Also each body part is different in it's makeup. I would defintely recommend cycling the rep ranges to keep the body in a constant state of confusion.
