Routine Question

Postby kettlebellnut » Tue Aug 24, 2004 3:20 pm

I had the following routine recommended to me by a co-worker/former builder.

I'd like to hear opinions on this routine -

Monday - Chest and Biceps

Tuesday - Cardio and Abs (wieghted, of course!)

Wednesday - Legs and Back

Thursday - Cardio

Friday - Shoulders and Triceps

Sat - Cardio and Abs (wieghted, of course!)

Sunday - off

Here is what I have been doing, works for me.. it is similar to what you posted, aside from I keep my chest day seperate because it is a weak point that I like to work on extra

Monday
Legs and Back (squats, deadlifts, lunges, etc)

Tuesday
cardio and core

Wednesday
Arms & Shoulders (shoulder presses, barbell curls, dumbell curls etc)

Thursday
cardio and core

Friday
Chest (flat bench, incline bench, flyes etc)

Saturday
cardio and core OR rest day

Sunday
rest day

The first routine looks ok, but I probably wouldn't do legs and back together.

For the second routine, I would recommend keeping deadlifts and squats separated.

John, I will take that advice. I went to the gym yesterday evening, after having 6 days off due to extensive tattooing on my left hand and arm, leaving it swollen and still sore. I also just felt tired, and did my deadlifting first off, which went fine, but afterwards I felt totally spent. I tried to do some squats, did one set of 5, and stopped as I just felt like I was working out half assed. My form was suffering and I didn't want to force it. I ended up doing some bent over rows, low cable rows, then jogging a couple miles because I felt I didn't get much accomplished and felt I should at least get in some cardio :)

oh well, one bad day, I will make the rest of the week count, because this Sunday I leave for Cancun for a week! they do have Nautilus machines at the place I am staying, so I will probably get some bit of a workout in a few times while I am there, plus bodyweight exercises in my room and jogging on the beach

This is a pretty standard split that I have used quite a bit.

Mon
Chest
Tue
Deadlift
Thur
Shoulders + Arms
Fri
Squat (legs)

I normally work my upper back in wherever it feels good. Usually it is done on the Chest or Deadlift day. Some people have a hard time doing additional back exercises after deadlifting, and that's where working it on chest day comes in handy. Leaving the weekend open allows you to take an extra day off if you need to, or to make up a workout pretty easily.

Let me know what you decide on and how it works!

Good luck,

John Jr.

If its mass you are after this is bang on!
Legs and back is too much - you need time to dedicate each part.

Me:
Monday chest/abs
Tues back
Weds shoulder/abs
Thurs legs
Friday arms
Sat/sun cardio x 2
