There was a thread recently in which people were saying that the veggie Patty is vegan, so I've taken their word for it. They certainly put masses of salad in. I'm going to start a campaign to get Subway to do humous.

The Earth Cafe continues to be pretty good, and now seems mainly to be run by women. The selection of cakes is not as reliable as it used to be, but standards haven't dropped.

I disagree :(. Last few times I've tried to go there the savoury food choice was really limited - e.g main dish was dahl and the soup was a variation of the dahl.

I only go there for salad, juices and cake, to be honest. I wouldn't have noticed the main meal unless it had pastry in.

AndyO and I wanted a vegan Full English breakfast the other day, and with Mod Pop cafe gone, we tried some of the other places in the city centre that have veggie breakfasts on the menu.

Without exception, all of them used Quorn sosages. Bastards!!!

Fox, Odder on Oxford Rd do a vegan breakfast. Their vegan pizza is a small pathetic scandal but the breakfast are generous.

There's and Oddest in Chorlton apparently. So to clarify it's Odd in the NQuarter who claim to serve a vegan breakfast, Odder on Oxford Road who serve a vegan breakfast and Oddest in Chorlton who may serve a vegan breakfast.

Re Subway, I am pretty sure the patty is not vegan (or wasn't last time I checked the ingredients) It contained egg IIRC.

Earth Cafe now closes at 4pm on weekdays (rather than 7). I can't comment on the food as it was closed when I tried to go there :( I'll visit soon and update though ;)

I'm going to contact Subway to ask them, and also put their details in the feedback thread.

Updates

Earth Cafe still closes at 4 and they've stopped heating the place. Everyone was wearing coats and scarves at the table on my last visit!

Odd and Odder do really nice, relatively low-fat vegan breakfasts. The price is okay for the location.

Oklahoma still do nice vegan hot chocolate and tasty baked sweet potatoes, but either the portions have shrunk or I went on a bad day. If I spend just over £5 on a baked spud, I want it to fill me up!

I took AndyO to Dough, the new pizza place on High St in the Northern Quarter (just round the corner from Earth and Oklahoma). We were impressed.

The pizzas were really nice and just the right size (about 9-10 inches). For slightly cheaper than The Cornerhouse prices, you get a slightly smaller pizza with a thicker, fresh-tasting base and twice as much topping. They have vegan mozzerella cheese and hummous options on the pizzas (both were great) and some tasty salads for side dishes with slightly wanky presentation (we had tomato, red onion and mango).

They have lots of flavours of Swedish Glace ice cream. When I phoned to book, the guy who answered was very knowledgeble about vegan options (although the menu isn't absolutely clear). They are very child-friendly before 6pm and give kids a drawing and crayons so they can design their own pizza!

They have Worthington White Sheild IPA, an excellent bottle-conditioned beer that's really hard to find.

Two negative points:
The olives were those crappy cheap ones out of a tin that are jet black and bright green. An Italian place should have real olives.

The place is understaffed. We were dealt with by a very helpful woman who was run off her feet. There were only about three staff waiting on everyone, wiping tables etc. We had to wait ages after finishing our pizzas for the dessert menu. Someone else could have had our table 15 mins earlier so this is a false economy that could ultimately break the place.

New veggie restaurant with plenty of vegan options! It is run by the guys who did Cafe Pop earlier.

Location: Thirsty Scholar Pub, under the arches of the bridge of Oxford Road train station. Close to cornerhouse etc.

went in there today with .flux. The menu was "pub lunch" and student pricing style, not bad at all.

Ciabattas, spicy bean burgers, noodles and tofu, beans and toast etc for just 2.50 - you get what you pay for but my bean burger was good value (went for the 1/2 pounder with extra vegan cheese so that was £4) and rochelles tofu noodles with chilli were good too.

Salad or potatoe wedges were just one pound too.

I'll be back for sure.

Excellent news! I haven't bumped into Martin the Mod for ages and was wondering what he was up to, hoping he had another cafe. Will check this out for sure.
