Berlin

Since its a capital and tonns of (vegan) visitors come here, i think a review/help thread would be cool. Didnt find anything here yet, so yeah....

This site totally rocks. http://www.berlin-vegan.de/berlin/restaurantkritiken/ ...They got a lot of good locations on their google-maps-vegan-Berlin-whatever- thingy. But ofc its in German. As most other stuff probably...
So yeah....post what you know!

Here are some of my fav places:

Zeus Pizza (like already mentioned in this board ;)) ...Boxhagenerstraße : https://maps.google.com/maps?q=zeus+piz ... a=N&tab=wl
ImageImage
Dolores (Burritos)...Rosa-Luxemburg-Straße : https://maps.google.com/maps?q=dolores+ ... a=N&tab=wl
Morgenrot (vegan/vegetarian Café with Brunch- *very dreadlockish* ^^) ...Kastanienallee : https://maps.google.com/maps?q=morgenro ... a=N&tab=wl
Funk You (healthy stuff, though good) ...Gärtnerstraße : https://maps.google.com/maps?q=funk+you ... a=N&tab=wl
ImageImage
Ketchup&Mayo (Burger/Fries - got a few vegetarian and one vegan Burger and even got vegan mayo -really nice folks!) ...I forgot which street. It should be somewhere around Oranienstraße/Adalbertstraße
Oh lala (Tartes and cake) ... Mainzerstraße : https://maps.google.com/maps?q=ohlala+b ... a=N&tab=wl
Image

In summer its just fun to hang out at the Friedrichshainer Volkspark. https://maps.google.com/maps?q=friedric ... a=N&tab=wl ....Its basically a big party with thousands of grills and pot smoking people ;) ...Also they got an open air cinema.

Then there is the Mauerpark Flohmarkt. Its a big flea market and theres also impro-music/art stage. A big tourist thing. They got some vegan and glutenfree food there. Just got to fight through the masses!

In the Eastern part of Berlin its quite normal that vegan stuff is advertised on the menu boards. So when you stroll around you see at every corner a restaurant/café where you can eat. Also sometimes asking is worth a bit. There is a Burger/sausage diner where you get vegan sausages, which arent really blinking on any neon menu board ;) ....that sounded weird....anyways....

Im curious about other locations...

sorry my friend but there is a thread about berlin already :)

viewtopic.php?f=33&t=20892

though it is a touch outdated. Personally i always recommend fully vegan places in berlin because there are so many (i believe 28 fully vegan places at the moment, and that is not including the housing projects which would add another perhaps 12-15 places). So morgenrot, while pretty cool place, fucking piss me off that its not vegan and i cant eat everything i see :D

If anyone has an extra round trip ticket from Portland to Berlin laying around, I'll be happy to do you a favor & take it off your hands - at no cost to you! ;)

OMG....that was sooooooooo good!!!! :D ....Its called "Anne Bonny"-Cup and yes, i kept the tiny boat and the flag
The café is called "Eisbärliner" and its at the "Boxhagener Platz" in Friedrichshain. I got there about an hour after closing time, but didnt realize cause the door was still open....And the lovely lady (sooo hot! ) didnt even look weird at us and took our orders like the cool chick that she was...
So it got vanilla, mango and stracciatella (normally there goes coconut in there, but they were out of it that day) ice cream, plus pineapple pieces and this orange thing which name i dont know. whipping cream and strawberry sauce....And those chocolate thingys which were really good as well....
They serve good Espresso and they also got waffles and Milchreis mit Zimt ;) ....whats that in English?!? Rice pudding with cinnamon ...ok....anyways...oh, there is also warm food like soups and stuff, but who wants that if you can have a Anne Bonny- Cup?!?! ---Exactly....
Did i mention how hot that woman was?! ;) ....that whole place is just chill and really nice.....Definitely my sweet-safe-place when roaming that area <3

If you visit, GO THERE. I mean it!!!

been to two flea markets this morning in Revalerstraße and Boxhagener Platz(way too early, no breakfast -__-) and found a girl who sold a lot of vegan patches and shirts. (Boxhagener Platz) On her jacket she had written "feminist hooligan!" ;) ....

And since we´ve been there anyways i got some "brunch" at Eisbärliner.... (icecream at 11am should be a standard, i think. )

Speaking of the flea markets in Berlin...I dont know if its a thing world wide really, but in Berlin ("cool" )people really go for the old clothes you can get for a few Euros or cents normally. But since its like that a lot of the clothes that look like 3 Euros cost 40Euros, just because  ...its a bit ridiculous. Same thing with old lamps and signs and furniture looking like garbage. But things are worth what you say they are worth...i know.

The Revaler Straße market is cool since its location is really nice. Old factory houses where clubs and bars are located and also abandoned houses/ just nothing and dust. ;) ...maybe the opposite of lovely nature, but i think its beautiful :)

Thanks for posting all the cool info on Berlin mo! I very much like that you add pictures too. I love flea markets, particularly the real ones where anyone can set up & most things are used or handmade by the folks selling the items.

Sadly Portland doesn't have any great markets like this... The closest thing we have is called "Last Thursday" a street /art festival held on the Last Thursday of each month. It is particularly hectic during the warmer, dryer summer months.

Berlin is such a (atm maybe THE) vegan city and i havent been living here for a long time, so im still excited as a kid on Christmas morning ^^ ....And i figured most Vegans who come here would be excited as well. But its so much to grasp and takes month to digest. So giving a continuing feed about whats up and new is something i would like to have about a lot of cities. But i can only do this. ^^ ....Its like getting to know a city youre not in, but still sort of are in bits (pics, annecdotes, etc)...Also it helps you to make a decision whether you wanna go to some place. Gives ideas and such. Plus its told by a "friend", not a total stranger who gets paid for advertising stuff...and if a lot of people bring together what they know it makes the world bigger. Id really love to get to know Berlin and other cities more. As a vegan tourist its really a lot of work to do on your own....(but i know its not a travelling community ^^...still we Vegans come around and MUST eat somewhere ^^)

PS: that thursday looks fun!!! :)

Berlin definitely appears to be the most vegan friendly city in Europe and perhaps anywhere in the world - though I believe that Portland is a close rival & perhaps wins outs, particularly as we're a good bit smaller population-wise. Your May Day looks really good: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aZzo0Nku5XE - ours is pretty good too: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=l4rgHQOi7Ng

Have you considered adding your info to the city guide section for Berlin on HappyCow? And of course, adding reviews for Berlin stores & restaurants there? Please do! http://www.happycow.net

While VF isnt specifically a travel oriented site, many of us here are travellers and this travel section stays pretty active - even more so now that you've been posting such great stuff! Have you checked out CouchSurfing? There is an active VF group there & also a Berlin Vegans group. http://www.couchsurfing.org

Last Thursday is pretty neat - why don't you come over & check it out? :D
