Tallinn, Estonia?

Postby hoffmeister » Tue Dec 04, 2012 9:16 pm

Anyone got some advice on what to do and what to eat? I'm going there this weekend.

No specific suggestions but glancing online it seems like fun is to be had there. Whats taking you to Tallinn & how long are you staying? I assume that you've seen this: http://www.happycow.net/europe/estonia/tallinn/

Personally, I'd probably just wander around for a bit, then hop a ferry to Stockholm or Helsinki... :)

Ok, hope it's not too late:

Here's my list:
Von Krahli Aed, Rataskaevu 8, Old town http://vonkrahl.ee/toit/restoranaed/menuu/paevapakkumine
+ friendly staff knows what word vegan means, vegan options in meny, also desserts. been there several times, always worked fine
- portion size/protein can be bit small for beasts, maybe can ask for bigger amount?

African Kitchen, Uus 32, Old town http://www.africankitchen.ee/
+ several vegan options on list. portion size decent. African style food, taste is usually great. We've visited several times, usually everything worked fine
- some waitress' don't know what word vegan means.

Elevant, Vene 5, Old town http://www.elevant.ee/
+ friendly staff, they have vegan options and they also made for us vegan naan-bread when they heard that we're vegan etc. Been there couple time.

There might be some more suitable restaurants that we haven't visited. Some restaurants have sucked, but those I mentioned have been fine, at least we had good experiences.

Great place, and if you are afraid of the portion size, order two main courses, the restaurant is quite cheap :)

:( I missed your advice. We went to the African place, they had knowledge of veganism but it took like one and a half hours to get the food. It was good, but nothing special.

We also ate at Kompott. Good vegan knowledge, and a bit fancy home style hipster food. It was a rather small portion and not that special.

How did you like the city? I enjoyed a quick weekend getaway there a number of years ago. Very pretty.

It was nice, but for a Swede it wasn't anything special really. A lot of the arcitecture is the same (though there were some cool neighbourhoods. It was winter so we didn't spend sp much time outdoors. The TV tower was well worth a visit.
