Minnesota & Wisconsin

Postby loveliberate » Wed Jul 25, 2012 6:27 pm

I am planning a trip out to MN & WI in September so I thought I'd see if there are any VF folks out that way who'd like to meet up and/or if anyone here can offer me suggestions on what to see & do. I am flying in & out of Minneapolis so I'll definitely be spending time there. I have already booked a round trip ticket between Minneapolis and my other primary destination of Madison. Happily I managed to pay only $4.50 in total on Megabus!

So please tell me more about this land of Nordic cheeseheads! :D

I live somewhat close by (four hour drive), but I'm still not familiar enough with Minneapolis to offer any great suggestions. If you feel like swinging south to Iowa for a little bit, (but why would you?) I could offer you free vegan food and lodging! And affection from two super friendly dogs!

I think Ryan & Courtney Wilson from Vegan Essentials are in Madison, but I'm not sure.

Actually, what I meant to say was, I'm willing to drive up to Minneapolis for a meet-up. I'm not seriously demanding you change your plans and come down to Iowa. Woo-hoo, possible Midwest meet-up!

Thanks for the enthusiastic reply & generous offer Adena! While I hadn't been looking to visit Iowa, I am certainly considering side-trips so I'll think on it. If Ryan & others wanted to meet up then perhaps Madison would be another option - though it looks to be a bit further for you... Regardless of where, I'd certainly enjoy visiting with your fam! :)

A great opportunity for recruiting! Or relocation! (*cough* Portland! * cough*)

Really though, outside of a few spots in Europe, VERY few of us here seem to have other active VF forum folks nearby... :(

i used to live in Bowling Green, Ohio if that counts

Awful little place. Major passtime other than drinking (cheap beer was good!) appeared to be shouting homophobic slurs at pedestrians.

For some reason my time in the midwest has made me want to own a pick up truck though. Not sure why.

I can't believe I didn't see this thread until now. I know we chatted a little on my intro thread loveliberate but if you are interested in getting together in Duluth (should you make it up this way) I would be open for it. I am not able to do any traveling right now as I start school again next week and between that and work and an internship I start next week I will have very little free time. I can't wait to have a social life again lol.

It does get lonely as a vegan up here but we are out there!

I am glad that you did see this thread Robin & am definitely interested in meeting up with you in Duluth. If we can coordinate schedules, perhaps Adena &/or other folks might be interested in doing a little road trip up there. And if do you do get a chance to make it down to the Twin Cities, I am sure we can pull something together there. :)

ROAD TRIP!!! Also, I talked to the husband and he is in. He would actually prefer Madison because neither of us have been there, but have heard good things. We'd still be down for a trip to Minneapolis, though. Whichever works.

Alright Adena, it looks like it may just be you (+ hubbie) & I as the folks most likely to show up (unless we make it up to Duluth, then Robins in too!) so how about we make some plans? :)

I fly in to Minneapolis in about 8 days, then hop on a Megabus over to Madison for 3-4 days. Want to meet up in MadCity?

Hm. Since it's on somewhat short notice at this point, I probably can't take time off work, but perhaps on a weekend we could get there. What weekends will you be in either city? Did you discover any promising dining options?

My apologies, I hadn't realized it was short notice & considered the discussion a work in progress for whoever wished to join in. I'll only have one weekend: September 15th (Sa) & 16th (Su), which I was planning to spend in Minneapolis. I have a fair bit of flexibility with my time, my constraints are more financial & transportation based (aka I probably won't have a car)...

As for dining options, Ecopolitan (vegan) and Hard Times Cafe in Minneapolis sound good & the Green Owl Cafe + Dandelion Food Cart in Madison all sound good.

Thoughts?
