[quote="Adena"][quote="loveliberate"]Lucky you Ja! :)

Adena, please do come visit! Why have the folks who "tried" to move out here not stayed?

I assume the job situation

Yep, I've had Portland residents tell me that outside of a few fields it is very hard to find a professional level job there. I've had friends move back from FLA complaining about the same thing, they call it "The Sunshine Tax"

When I was living in California I always meant to take a road trip up the coast to visit Oregon and Washington. Unfortunately it never happened and now I live far away in Toronto. Sigh. SOMEDAY I'll finally get to Portland.

Well, I'm coming Stateside next April and wonder whether Portland would be worth a visit?

I'm starting a separate thread about my visit, so I can seek recommendations.

Portland is always worth a visit! :)

Even more so for Vegans & folks who love the outdoors. I'm glad to show you around & can almost certainly offer a place to stay when you visit. Do you have any specific questions about Portland and/or types of things that you like to check out when you travel?

Not really, it's just that I'd barely heard of the place until recently, but it gets mentioned in vegan circles quite a lot at the moment, so I'm curious.

I'm up for the tour and crashing space, definitely. I could pay in Marmite, which I believe is a kind of currency in America.

Please gawd, no f-ing marmite!!! ;)

I've posted quite a bit about Portland here on VF so please have a look at that. As for why this city is so popular with vegans, the general consensus is that Portland is as good as it gets for vegan & vegan-friendliness. Happily most of the main contenders like San Francisco and Vancouver are also within a (long) days drive of here. On top of that we have many of the same desirable qualities as those other Left Coast cities - just in a smaller, more affordable package.
