[quote="Mr. Cleetus"]I'll be there in a couple of weeks, but I'll be pretty busy with probably not much time to have a look around. Any top recommendations I should make sure I check out in case I only get to a couple of places?
Portabello is moving shortly, the address for the Blossoming Lotus is kind of a pain (it is no longer in the Pearl district, don't spend three hours looking for it like we did).
I would probably suggest hitting SweetPea Bakery if you're looking for a really good, quick meal (sandwiches and cake). I had the first grilled "cheese" sandwich I've had in four years (which I'd suggest throwing the "bacon" option on it, as it was amazingly good). Plus with Food Fight Grocery right next door, you can get too-go wraps, rice rolls, Tequitos (I bought a box frozen and popped them in the microwave in my hotel) and a bunch of other stuff. The entire building is vegan and the options are:
Sweetpea Vegan Bakery, Herbivore clothes, Food Fight Grocery and Scapegoat Tattoo (they use creulty-free ink). So it is a good way to save some time and have a lot of options.
Seriously though, there are street food carts out there that put high-end restuarants to shame (The Ruby Dragon was pretty tasty if you find yourself on that side of town). The entire downtown area is pretty compact, so everything is within a couple of miles of each other.
Van Hahn's is really good, but you'll be waiting awhile before you eat, so I'd skip it if you are in a hurry!
Oh! There is also Mississippi Pizza Pub that has a vegan pizza that is worth checking out! They don't offer vegan pepperoni the way some other places do, but their spinach vegan was pretty awesome.
I wish I could say that one stood as a shining example, but I think it is all in what you're looking for.
