Melbourne- a vegan paradise

Melbourne is just outstanding when it comes to the vegan food on offer, as well as the quality of that food. Here are some pics from my recent travels.

Image

The Indonesian-inspired Satay Pizza from Plush Pizza in Melbourne. Never thought I'd enjoy a peanut-flavoured pizza but this was seriously plush. http://www.plushpizza.com.au/

Image

Caramel tart from outstanding vegan bakery Tart 'n Round. They have an orgasmic black forest gateau, but I was too greedy and ate it before I could take photos. Second pic is Tiramisu cake http://www.tartnround.com.au/

Image

The best hot chocolate ever, it's made with cashew milk and a really rich deep chocolate, made in-house at Coco Loco http://cocoloco1.wordpress.com/

Mostly Greens- a macrobiotic inspired plate of rice, BBQ tempeh and greens from Vegiebar

Helmut's meal, can't remember the name

Hardcore Iv's tempeh sandwich

Lunch as Las Vegan

Vegan Pumpkin Pizza at Mr Natural Vegetarian Pizza

Lots more pics, unfortunately some from the last night are really blurry, did anyone get any decent pics?

That looks like the "Gado Gado".

I'm currently dieting and every thing I seem to look at, talk about, and think about seems to be food. Arghhh.

Yeah, I loved that Mostly Greens dish, after a lot of fake meats and cakes (not complaining though!) I was ready for some greens and brown rice.

As I recall Helmut was not impressed with the Gado Gado though.

Another win for Melbourne:

[quote]Steeplechase and hurdle racing in the Australian state of Victoria will be abolished in 2010, prompted by the deaths of 20 horses in two years.

The decision follows a comprehensive review of the sport and has been welcomed by animal welfare groups.

Poor helmut, I guess the cake from Tart 'n Round made up for it though :-)

Green Gourmet is amazing. Last time I was in Sydney I went a couple of times. I can't wait to get back and check out Green Palace (is that correct?) just down the road as I've heard it's even better.

Iku was great for convenience, too.

I live in Brisbane and there's a few good places to find vegan food. Kwan-Yin in Fortitude Valley, Loving Hut in Mt Gravatt, The Forest in West End, The Alibi Room in Fortitude Valley and My Heart Garden in St.Lucia. You might also want to check out a brand new all vegan health food shop opening next week in Enogerra called Green Edge. I hope you enjoy Brisvegas!
