Ideas for home made endurance gel

I want to make my own home made endurance gel. What are the most vital parts of a gel except lots of carbs? I'm thinking of having a base of dates (just like Vega's gel).

I don't think there's anything more than carbs that are vital for a gel. Perhaps some water to make it fluid?

I used to make one based on ideas from Thrive. Mashed dates, a banana, an avacado, cooked rice and raisins all squashed together works well. Sometimes I would put in some ground sunflower seeds, the main benefit of that is that its drier and makes it stick together better.

How about adding some beet juice and Udo's Choice?
