Fat free salad dressings?

Postby Superflor » Wed Jan 25, 2012 11:28 am

Tryna cut down on oils and fats but salad with just balsamic vinegar and salt is a bit boring. Any suggestions, please?

This one.

Works with:

Fried tofu
Shredded green mango
Shredded green papaya
Shredded Granny Smiths
All of the above.

Also works hot.

You can also make a good one with just cider vinegar, crushed cherry tomatoes, and salt, although olive oil does make it better. Olive oil makes most things better.

Why cut down on oils and fats?

Thanks for the replies and suggestions. Looks like I'll get some chilli sauce and some cider vinegar and mustard in then :) Was gonna have a go at cutting oils because of this: http://www.pcrm.org/search/?cid=165 But I live in Spain, like my olive oil and fry tofu, sos mix and am partial to a roast potato, so see how we go.

A few years ago I lost 48 lbs over the course of a year by counting calories and keeping a food diary. I was comfortable doing it. I only cut enough calories to lose no more than a pound a week. I would start feeling hungry a LITTLE bit before meal time, but I think that is the way it is "supposed to be".

Anyway, I lost the weight eating things all sorts of of popular diets demonize: "carbs", fats of all kinds, sugar, candy etc. I would even occasionally fill up on candy, just making sure I didn't go over my calorie allowance.

Not to healthy, of course, but you can lose weight without cutting out any kind of food.

If you aren't trying to reverse cardiovascular disease, a tablespoon of olive oil a day for a salad dressing probably isn't going to hurt your health and it doesn't have to be a problem for weight management either.

Ah sorry, I didn't read the link. I just assumed it was more of the PCRM's hard line anti-fat in the diet for any reason stance.

Not sure if you are trying to cut out all fats from the dressing, or if just removing oils will do. Either way, this recipe is fairly healthy and DELICIOUS!

1 tb white vinegar
1 tb soy sauce
2 tb tahini
1/2 ts sugar/agave
any tb water (to reach desired consistency)
Lovin' it!

This one isn't fat free (don't see the point personally), but it is mega awesome.

4-5 handfuls of baby spinach (maybe 1/2 a bag)
1 30g pack of basil, leaves only
4 good tsps dijon mustard
1 tbsp cider vinegar
1/2 cup ev olive oil
10 black olives (jarred kind in brine)- deseeded
1 tsp sugar

That's it, blend until smooth to produce a bright green thick liquid. Best served with new potatoes and avocado. Yes, you read that right: ninearms eats potatoes!

These are all great. Thanks everyone. I got some sweet chilli sauce and some Dijon mustard in today and did this blend thing of bit of tahini, bit of white vinegar, some of this apple and clove jelly stuff a cousin got me for Chrimbo, some chives and it was quite nice. Got me experimenting at any rate.

Ok, so now I'm addicted to Encona sweet chilli sauce. Thanks Talyn.
